Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

All went quite well. Windows Store and Microsoft APPS now working. Only strange thing was that Boot Screen with Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 option disappeared after a few boots. Tried to repair it, but failed. Now I'm using a workaround that may be in the end more useful to me anyway, using the "advanced Startup" shortcut from this forum.

Anyway, GREAT to know this general solution which can amazingly be faster than solving specific problems. Although it is very disappointing to have to use it, after all it is Windows TEN!

My computer hardware crashed and it corrupted my system. I was told the only way to fix this was a clean install. When I searched on my tablet for help w/o having to go that far I found the references to the repair install. You gave the clearest, best tutorial for doing this, and I appreciate it so much. Your tutorial applied to my 8.1 saved my system and will now allow me to upgrade to 10. thank you again!

Please excuse a struggling layman. If I've read the instructions right, I can use thgis method to reinstall Windows 10 while preserving the software I have on my PC. It's my lad's PC actually, and he's having problems with BSOD's . But he has all his music software aboard and does not want tonahve to start reinstalling every=thing, including some "plug-ins" which are no longer available.

So, for clarity. Will using this method allow me to reinstall Widnows 10 onto his PC without destroying (1) Data and (2) existing installed third party software.

Thank you. Have been advised to reinstall some drivers first, but this holds huge hope for my son. THANK YOU again. And forgive me if I appear here again with more queries.

I have one immediate one. I am concverned about the Secure boot disabling. So far as I'm aware, my son';s PC runs on BIOS, not UEFI >
How can I establish that? I can contact the manufacturers, but, to date, they have been less than helpful.
