Thanks very much for your reply! I tried with both a new user, and an existing user other than mine.

For the new user, the same apps do not appear in the All Apps list at all. Searching for "calculator" in Cortana just brings up a web suggestion. I couldn't see any other the problem apps in the list (not even as "@{Microsoft" versions) either.

Interestingly, the existing other user had mixed success. I could click on the "@{Microsoft..." versions of the apps, and for a couple of them, they were "restored" to normalcy somehow, including the App Store and Media Player. The others didn't restore, though. Nor did the "restored" apps appear restored in the two other users (the new one and my original one).

So what do you reckon would be my best course?

Hello alabaster, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If you like, you could do a repair install that should be able to sort this for you without losing anything.

Hi and thanks for the welcome.

I was having issues with the Start Menu opening. Clicking it with the cursor or using the Windows key didn't work.

I used 64-bit Windows in English and verified the builds to be 1511.

Now my internet settings aren't working correctly. I created a new profile and can use the start menu again but still can't access the internet. I can open command prompt and ping out fine but loading webpages in a browser doesn't work.
Yup had the same issue on my desktop and im not wireless. Did a repair install because my windows store app is broken and everything was fine after the process the store app was back and i could access the internet. After restarting the PC everything look fine......tried to open a browser and no connection from firefox, edge, or chrome. Windows states im connected but nothing is able to get out. I even ran malware-bytes and eset updates and they stated no internet connection. No apps at all could connect.

I went though this whole process
Fix network connection issues - Windows Help

Uninstalled 3rd pt firewall and antivirus app, reinstalled network adapter, turned off windows firewall, reset internet options, made sure ipv4 was checked in adapter properties, etc and still unable to get out to the internet. I even unplug from my router and went straight to the modem.....new network 4 connected... but still cant access internet. Once i did a restore/rollback everything was fine.

Really dont want to do a full restore to get the app store back

Hello Uzumaki, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If it's still working, then it'll be best to let it sit until finished. Sometimes it may seem like it's hung but just being real slow.
