    thanks

    from your post..........
I had a problem making another user account. A repair install did fix that problem.

You can try a repair install and see if it fixes your problem. If not make a new account and copy C:\Users\OLDNAME contents to C:\Users\NEWNAME......think that's what you meant LOL.

You might have to re-install programs. All programs installed as all users, so they already there.

will have to repin to start menu, but not such a problem

But try the repair install first. ( I did notice I am repeating what everyone has wrote. But it doesn't hurt to repeat it)

will try try install repair, may fix what's wrong.

Don't copy C:\Users\OLDNAME\AppData\ to NEWNAME as most likely you'll copy the problem.

Note you only see this directory if you are showing hidden files.

I think the problem with the user profile is in the DAT files ( three ) which I assume store info pertinent to the user profile....the new accounts I created have all the installed programs and new third party apps installed show ok....so the plan is to just copy my docs pictures etc......the when ok delete the original profile....will start on this today...

    thanks

When you copy the AppData folder like that, it will usually just reintroduce the same problems.

Reinstalling games is a chore, but the results from a clean install is worth it and takes less time than continuing to struggle with a stubborn issue that is more than a nuisance. Even a lot of games. The only potential problem is with DRM.

However you try to fix your problem please let us know what and how you fixed it.
Sometimes doing a clean install doesn't help.

Always image your drive before you try anything. Macrium Reflect is what I use. http://www.macrium.com/

I copied the appdata folder from my original user profile to the newly created user profile using a third profile....
seems a bit screwed up...get the message line 0 file C users name appdata roaming javaxa firewall error error opening the file
also left clicking on the start menu causes issues.....
when I create a new user profile 99% of my programs are still showing as Iminstalled them for all users...
what folders files is it safe to copy over from my original profile apart from docs pics videos...?

    thanks

    UPDATE
if only there was a way to repair the original problem of newly installed third party programs not showing in the programs menu

    would be amazing

Sorry this has moved off subject,

but Slugger asked me to let him know how it went, grid to PM Slugger, but wouldn't let me.

So in a nutshell, created two profile one temp to move stuff around, one new one, to be the final profile.

have reattached all the program pins to the new profile, copied my google chrome bookmarks and now copying docs pictures and videos across, so far so good, all working perfectly, not sure what I have missed from my previous user profile to this one, is there anything else I should copy over.

    many thanks

Great article; as explained here this is not for: "... You will only be able to do a repair install of Windows 10 from within Windows 10. You will not be able to do a repair install at boot or in Safe Mode ..."
I wonder how to do the same when it is not possible to boot? Thank you.
    Best,
