I would just follow the tutorial. Updates can be installed later.

Yes, as part of the normal process it will download and apply all pertinent OS updates automatically. There is no need to wait and do things after the fact manually. It even says "(Recommended)". Mine has always been defaulted to the Recommended. I have always done it this way. I see no reason to do it otherwise. The only possible exception would be a rare case when there is a known bad update in the wild that you would want to avoid. Very very rare. Let the system work the way it was designed.

    Agreed.
Just prefer to avoid Windows deciding on drivers' updates, since there is at least one (for a wifi adapter) I know of, that is problematic.
Not sure if this can be avoided by the "Not Right Now" option, but at least trying.

Have you looked at WUMT? Windows Update Mini-Tool? You can snag them prior to WU and muzzle them.

Brink who wrote the tutorial must have his reasons for the way he wrote the tutorial. I prefer to do it your way too.

Steps #9 and #12 appear to contradict each other, unless the words mean something different than usual. Shawn @Brink may know why.

    Hello Dick,

I hear you. Windows Setup will still go through the process of checking for updates at step 12, but will not actually download or install updates if Not right now was selected at step 9.

Thanks. While we have your attention. Why does #9 exist at all? Why isn't it left at the default of Check for Updates? There's no explanation for the change.
