Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade  

Okay. I did it twice and got the same results.

I just tested on a Windows 10 version 2004 build 19041.388 VM with the same ISO, and I still see the same steps in the tutorial.

It seems like "Next" may have been clicked on at step 8 for you instead of the "Change how Windows Setup downloads updates" link.

I never saw Step 8 or 9. This is on a Lenovo K450 X64 2004 19041.388. The first window I saw was the one I showed as was the 2nd window.

I think I'm due for a clean install. My system has been acting screwy the last week or so. Yesterday each time I did the repair install, on reboot something went wrong. Either it couldn't find the boot drive or there was no output from my video card, and my Realtek WiFi has gone missing the last week or two.

Up and running after a Clean Install. So far so good. I'll slowly install software as I need it.

Still no Realtek WiFi though, so I think hardware wise it's dead. I ordered a new Bluetooth/WiFi USB dongle to replace it and a separate Bluetooth dongle that I'm currently using. . Also ordered a powered 4 port USB 3.1 hub and a replacement for my Nvidia GeForce GTX 750. I've been real happy with the one I have except it didn't have a DVI prot, the new one does (VGA, DVI and HDMI).

I'm glad the new install is running well so far.

Did you already check if the Realktek WiFi may need drivers from the manufacturer?

Nothing to load the drivers for. It's just gone. I did load them anyway but it made no difference.

I think the new Bluetooth/WiFi USB dongle will do the trick.

I am keeping any eye out for a replacement mother board for the Lenovo IdeaCenter K450 though. I don't like refurbished boards but most I've looked at have a 60 day warranty so I may just give one a try at some point in the future if needed. Ethernet was a little wonky off and on for a while too but has been rock solid since the Clean Install.

It Always gives me a choice, you did something wrong. Follow Brinks instructions to the letter. Save your ISO to a USB stick, and boot from it. Use the MediaCreationTool also. I've done this many, many times. Just did one 3 days ago.

Hello mate,

In addition, check the version and language of the media (ex: ISO or USB) you used to do the repair install. If it doesn't match the currently installed Windows 10, Windows Setup will not give you the option to keep anything.

I currently have .423 and I have tried .388/.423/.450 ISOs, but all failed. I guess, the clean install is inevitable.
