Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

First use an imaging program, Macrium Reflect, being the best, to create a Full system image in an external drive, which can be used, if not happy with the upgrade, to rollback.
Then try Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

So there is no way to rollback with this method using windows recovery? I have no problems using macrium as an insurance policy anyway but would prefer if I could rollback without if that makes sense.

Hello,

As long as you don't do step 17, you will be able to go back to the previous version of Windows within 10 days if needed after doing a repair install.

It would still be recommended to create a separate system image with something like Macrium Reflect to be safe in case your current issues cause an unrecoverable problem during the repair install.

Just my 2 cents worth.....

Yes, rollback is normally possible, within the 10 day period, if you do not run a disk cleanup and delete the windows.old. BUT.....

It's a little like having the fox watch the hen house. You're depending on Windows to 100% recover Windows. Anything goes bonkers, and you're kinda up the creek. That's why something like Macrium (highly recommend....) gives you a 100% bit-by-bit off-line out of danger backup if the worst happens. Insurance. You wish you have it the moment you realize you don't.

Shortly after Win10 was released I upgraded a Dell 8.1Pro desktop. When I discovered that my video card was unsupported (no sleep/hibernate/etc), I decided to rollback courtesy of Microsoft. Shortly after the rollback commenced it failed, leaving me to re image using Macrium Reflect.

Earlier this week I used "repair install" to move to 1903. Just before doing that, I created a full image of my OS and Programs partitions. It's a smart thing to do.

Even with the 10-day window, it's possible that you'll discover a problem "too late"... and then what?

I think you're all right, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Don't forget to also create the Macrium Reflect Rescue Media, before starting!
