Just double click on iso and run setup.exe and select to keep everything and OS will be reinstalled over top and repaired anyway.

Followed the tutorial and Repair Install went very well. It took 3 hrs.15 mins. but I had saved files and apps plus this is a 10 year old Dell Laptop running Insiders. Taking the time to produce an ISO via Kari's UUPtoISO is worth doing.

Have been in the process of upgrading interior hardware and software. Was trying out a USB WiFi antenna that I really didn't need and it's drivers caused the machine to lose 2 cylinders. I removed the drivers but the system still seemed very slow. After the Repair Install things are a bit faster but need to see what else the mini dvd driver disk slipped onto the computer. All M$ and Dell software/hardware checking apps say everything is fine, but......!

Anyway, thanks Brink for this tut and all the other tuts you make available to the world!

Hi Brink

I offered to help a friend out and briefly give him a run through with a laptop (Lenovo Ideapad) running Win 10 Home 32 Bit, only to find out it has some major problems, most of the apps don't open, Windows Explorer won't open and i cannot get much to work at all so after running through some very detailed fixes on the forum and nothing worked i recommend one of your tutorials to do a clean installation of Win 10 as there is nothing of value on it he wants to keep, but... there is always a but... his father gave it to him and neither of them know if there was a driver backup of some description, i assume it might have been a flash drive as there is no optical drive in it just two usb ports.
So the question is which of your tutorials would you suggest to upgrade and reinstall Win 10 without loosing all the drivers if that is possible.
The only valuable information i can find are 3 windows updates KB3081452, KB3099406, KB3097617 all installed on 26.3.2016 and i don't really want to spend hours tracking down drivers if we loose them.

You could try this one, will keep all his apps and only replace drivers if newer one is found.

You can back up the existing drivers before doing a clean install or a repair install. Brink has a tutorial for that.

Thanks Oldmike for that info, the update process is running right now and i will get back to you later as it looks like it might be awhile before it's done.

And thanks Bree for the link to back up drivers etc that has joined my growing collection of useful tips, i don't know how we would get along without you guys here to help out and i will look into the smoke replacement as i might need some if this update fails!!

Well guys another success story all went well and my mate has a computer that works and is backed up

Hi Shawn,

I'm about to perform a repair install, the COMPONENTS hive is corrupted in an unrepairable state.

Do you know if this hive is recreated with a repair install?
