It's going to depend on what's causing the BSOD. If it's hardware related, then a repair install may not help.

It may be worth posting your BSOD issue in the BSOD Crashes and Debugging forum area to hopefully find a cause and possible solution first if you like.

Is there any way to do the same without Windows Installation Media?
I have a pc that will only launch apps and programs in Safe Mode. How can I perform the in place upgrade from there?

Sorry, as per the tutorial, you can't. You could however run chkdsk, sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt, and try a clean boot. You may be lucky. You may also try system restore if you have any applicable restore points. Failing that, there's the possibility of restoring a backup copy of the registry.

I assume you've not discovered how invaluable routinely using disk imaging is, allowing you to restore your system to a previously working state usually without technical help...?

Have you tried creating a new user account, make the new user account an administrator, then try running in normal mode in the new user account?

Thank you for response. I am assisting someone who did not make a backup. I am unable to run chkdsk as above, I get an error saying invalid parameter sfc

Have tried system restore but it doesnt work, only certain things work in normal mode, it seems to launch then just goes into a loop until you have to reset.

I have tried to create another user account in safe mode, but when I click add another person it does not open? Any assistance would be hugely appreciated!

Really sounds like it is time to start over with a clean install of Windows 10. I don't think you are going to get a repair install to work.

Could I suggest you start a new thread for this rather than under this tutorial?

And I agree with @NavyLCDR that you're most likely heading for
    a. Back up anything needed
    b. Clean install

    Meanwhile it's
    chkdsk c: /F
(sfc is a different command, not a parameter for chkdsk- note the , in my brief comment above).
How To Use SFC Scannow to Repair Windows System Files
This tells you more on how to run the sfc.

I put in the carefully labeled Windows 10 64 bit Home Edition disc I downloaded from this site, began the Repair Install from within my currently running Windows 10 Home Edition and was greeted with You can't keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps because your current version of Windows might be installed in an unsupported directory.

Ran Winver on the W10 tower. It says Version 1607 (OS Build 143393.576). I then ran a Dism command on the ISO disk in the tower to determine what was in the CD tray. It says Version 10.0.10586, Win 10 Pro.

I have no idea how I got the wrong OS type. Is there a way around this? I really don't want to do a reinstall unless absolutely necessary. This tower was upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 this past summer and I'm concerned about the product key.

Hi, this site doesn't actually host Win 10 iso's... Congratulations on correctly interpreting MS's unhelpful and misleading message.

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...-download.html
You might prefer to try the media creation tool (Option 2) if you used Option 1 before.

You also have to use an iso with the correct language e.g. if it was a single language German Windows originally, then that's what you must use.

Note: you can freely reinstall Win 10 with automatic activation on a PC which has already been activated if necessary.

Care to explain in what way is the message "unhelpful" and "misleading"?
