I would prefer not to as I have tons of games downloaded which would require all of them to be re-installed as a Clean Install would zap out the Registry files not to mention all my other stuff. As you can see from my System Specs I most certainly should be able to install W10 the main reason is it's already installed...weird ain't it.

It's odd that it's giving you that when you are already running Windows 10.

Have you already tried doing a system restore using a restore point dated before you had the issue making you want to do a repair install to see if it may sort it?

Yeah I went the restore route first thing, tried sfc /scannow but it always comes back all good. My main issue is my C:\inetpub\history config file is corrupted and each time I boot I get at least 42 red error messages. I've been going through my Admin Event Viewer trying to eliminate 'em one at a time and the Event ID error 9010 is at the top of the list and the causing all the problems. If you know of a way to repair that notepad config file it sure would be a load off. I posted a question regarding this issue on here but haven't heard anything as yet. Thats the reason for the Repair Install questions is to get to the bottom of that 9010 ID error.

    Hello Sharidya, :)

Sometimes a repair install can take quite some time to finish. Especially if you had issues or a lot of stuff on the hard drive.

If you still have hard drive activity, then it would be best to let it sit until finished.

If you don't have any hard drive activity, then you could perform a hard restart to see if it may pick up where it left off when restarting. If not, the repair install could fail and you are rolled back to where you were before starting the repair install.

Had an issue with my user profile ( or so I believe ) where newly installed third party apps are not showing in the program menu, but do on another W10 laptop....and used to previously ( something glitched I guess ) what I wondered is, if I perform this repair procedure, is it likely to repair the issue with my user profile, or will that be retained with the apps and personal files that are retained ?

Also will 'pinned' apps to the start menu be retained following this process or are they lost ?

I can make a disk image with acronis first so if the results are not good, I can go back..

thanks for for all your tutorials, so easy to follow and understand.

    Hello redwarf4ever, :)

Your will not lose your apps and accounts by the repair install, but I don't think it'll help with this issue. Usually uninstalling and reinstalling the apps should though.

Either way, it won't hurt anything to try a repair install other than your time, but I would always recommend to create an image backup first just to be safe.

have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the apps several times, but although it works fine on a newly created admin profile, still refuses on my original one, if there is no option to repair it, will have to go through the lengthy folder copy procedure and reestablish all the pinned program files

    thanks

I had a problem making another user account. A repair install did fix that problem.
You can try a repair install and see if it fixes your problem. If not make a new account and copy C:\Users\OLDNAME contents to C:\Users\OLDNAME. You might have to re-install programs.

But try the repair install first. ( I did notice I am repeating what everyone has wrote. But it doesn't hurt to repeat it)
