    Hello tzfrantic,

What Windows 10 edition, version, and build number do you currently have installed?

Looking at your setup log, it indicates one issue was it unable to determine if you have enough free space on the hard drive to do the repair install.

It sounds like you will need to install build 19042.662 at the link below to be able to do a repair install. There's currently an issue with repair install in the latest official 19042.631 build.

    KB4586853 CU Windows 10 v2004 build 19041.662 and v20H2 19042.662

    will try that thanks :)
    i tried Download KB4586853 CAB for Windows 10 v2004 and v20H2 64-bit (x64) - 369.0 MB
To install it when it restarts gets to 79 percent then it says cannot install update rolling back changes.

    Dual-boot Win 7 & 10, both Pro 64-bit, now with a Hyper-V VM of Win 11

Bree - please see your post here at [link —>] Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade.

My PC dual-boots Win 7 Pro 64-bit and Win 10 Pro 64-bit. Previous upgrades to Win 10 worked without disturbing the Win 7 side of my PC. But those were all through Win 10’s Windows Update.

Do you think there’s much risk to my Win 7 side now if I update Win 10 Pro 64-bit from 1909 tp 2004 using the mounted .iso method for in place upgrade?

    Thanks.

I don't dual boot, so I can't say for certain. I would expect it to be safe, but for a definitive answer we'd need someone who does dual boot to comment.

You could always make a system image with Macrium Reflect Free before trying, that way if if messes up the dual boot you could just restore the image and be back where you started.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

I routinely make a system image before any upgrade, it's a sensible precaution to take (though I seldom need to restore it).

Cannot find update KB4586853 suitable for my computer

    Hello,
I want to do a Repair Install but I'm stuck with the issue of the KB4586853 update.

This is my setup: Windows 10 Pro x64-bit, 20H2, 19042.685, WFEP 120.2212.551.0. I have 83 GB of free space left on the C-disk and that should be enough I hope.

It says in the tutorial that if having 20H2 installed, it is required to have KB4586853 installed for build 19042.662 or higher.

I've looked into the record of recent updates on my PC but I can't find this particular update there. I've tried to download further updates but System says I'm fully updated. Then I've tried to manually download the update but all versions I've tried ends up with message "This update will not work on this PC".

So, does it mean then that I can't do a repair/install and keeping all my personal stuff including programs?

Thank you kindly in advance for any guidance.

In Brink's first post in this thread at bottom, download the msu file for your machine, and run it, It will check to see if it needs it, then install it
