How to Add or Remove Location tab in Folder Properties in Windows 10

You can right click or press and hold on a folder in Windows, and click/tap on Properties to see more details about the folder's properties.

The Location tab in the properties page window of supported folders (ex: user personal folders) will allow you to see the current location of the folder, move the default location of the folder, restore default location, and find target of the folder.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the Location tab on the Properties page of folders for all users in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove the Location tab.

    That's it,

    Location tab solution

    Hi Shawn -
In my oh so many years of using your fixes, this is the first one that isn't working for me!
As you can see below, I downloaded and installed the sheet handler to add location tabs, but to no avail.
I'm still unable to get a Location tab on any folder Properties. (I'm specifically aiming to move my User folder.)
    Am I missing something basic?
    Many thanks!
    Frank

    Hello Frank,

The Location tab will only be available on the properties page of folders that support being moved.

The User folder doesn't support being moved.

    .
    Hi Shawn.

About a week ago, I had a Location tab on "Roaming" for:

    C:\Users\Alan\AppData\Roaming

I was getting short of space on C:, so I used your method in a Tutorial (which now seems to have disappeared).

    - I created a folder "AppData_Roaming" on D:
    - I opened the Location tab on C:\Users\Alan\AppData\Roaming
    - I typed D:\AppData_Roaming

That all worked fine. I went to D: I could see all my files. And I could see the Location tab for moving back to C: if required.

I typed the original C location in the box to verify that the box was not frozen. I then cancelled without actually doing anything.

I now have more space on C:, so I want to restore the Roaming files on C.

Today, there are no Location tabs on:

    - C:\Users\Alan\AppData\Roaming
    - D:\AppData_Roaming

So I wanted to use this current tutorial to restore the Location tabs.

But as you explained to @frankinthevilla, the User folder can't be used.

So maybe some options have changed in the last week, but how do I get my files back to C:?

    Thanks
    .

You can't just move appdata. Here is why:

If you have a backup then restore it. Otherwise if you can move it back to default maybe run junctionbox just to be sure:

    Alan,

What does the relevant User shell folder entry have to say for AppData\Roaming and for its related entries?

Since you made your system image beforehand, you might as well continue your experiment by manually changing those entries in the Registry.
Not having played around with these before, I'd make the changes then reboot & check the Shell folders key to make sure it also reflected the new data.
