Hi Shawn, could you please update your doing adding the "without UAC prompt" either using Script and in Task Scheduler?

I'll see what I may be able to come up with, but it may take a while of playing with.
@Brink, I think "without UAC prompt" is possible with the scripts in this tutorial: Create Elevated Shortcut without UAC prompt in Windows 10
The same trick applies to creating a restore point, which can be done via a CMD file. The scripts there work with both applications and CMD files.

    Hello Matthew,

    Agreed.

I'll be testing today to verify, and will post back.

    I tried unsuccessfully also using C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k "Wmic.exe /Namespace:\\root\default Path SystemRestore Call CreateRestorePoint " ", 100, 7".
This will complete your already wonderful doing (as usual !) when you want give a standard user the capability to run it.
    Really appreciated!

    Hello Sergio,

    All ready.

For elevated shortcut to create a restore point without UAC prompt:

Create Elevated Shortcut without UAC prompt in Windows 10

A standard user will not be able to use this shortcut.

    • You would use powershell.exe in the Program/script field in step 7 of Option 2 above.
    • You would use -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "Checkpoint-Computer -Description \"Manual Restore Point\" -RestorePointType \"MODIFY_SETTINGS\"" in the Add arguments field in step 8 of Option 2 above.

    Hello Shawn,
    I'm currently out of home.
I'll test asap (Monday) and let you know.
You say option 2, what about using the runas method?
In the meantime a big thank to you as usual.
Do you think that it will be possible to embed it in the context menu as well?
    Have a nice weekend!

I'm not sure what you mean by the "runas method". If you mean for the registry key, it would have a UAC prompt.

You could have the elevated shortcut where you want (ex: desktop, pin to taskbar, pin to Start, etc...) if you wanted to run the elevated task using the shortcut.

Otherwise, let me know what you used for the command in step 13 of option 2 below to create the elevated shortcut with. I can use it for the context menu and post back with a .reg file for you.

    @Brink, @Cirus,

Please click here to download a .bat file and just double-click to run it, which will add a new item "Create a restore point" into the context menu. Just click on the item, and a restore point will be created without a UAC prompt. It works at my end. See the screenshot below:
