    Hi Shawn, thanks for your efforts!

    I'm not sure where to ask this question, perhaps this tutorial is the right place.

    Any time I connect something to my computer - most often it's my phone which I connect through the USB to keep it charged during the day - the "Device Setup Manager" tries to access the internet. Now, this is not the first time I am connecting this device, moreover, sometimes I pick up the phone to answer a call and disconnect it from the PC (I have some sort of a charging station/stand for it) and then few minutes later connect it again. Again, I have the "Device Setup Manager" wanting to connect. I block these connections and nothing happens, everything works as it should, from which I figure it's some sort of telemetry. I don't understand why should the PC report to someone every time I connect my phone or a USB drive, and I don't want to be manually blocking it every time. So the question is - is this "Device Setup Manager" actually useful for something or can I just block it from the internet altogether?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello @unifex,

    This is normal for the Device Setup Manager (DsmSvc) service to detect, download and install device-related software if needed whenever you connect a device to the computer.

    You could disable the service, but If disabled, devices may be configured with outdated software, and may not work correctly.

    Hello Thomas,

    Only the PreventDeviceMetadataFromNetwork DWORD would need to be modified if wanted.

    0 = off
    1= on

    Hi, Brink
    The instruction of option two of tutorial might need to be corrected.
    Should 0 be on or yes and 1 be off or no?
