How to Enable or Disable Clipboard Sharing with Windows Sandbox in Windows 10

Windows Sandbox provides a lightweight desktop environment to safely run applications in isolation. Software installed inside the Windows Sandbox environment remains "sandboxed" and runs separately from the host machine.

A sandbox is temporary. When it's closed, all the software and files and the state are deleted. You get a brand-new instance of the sandbox every time you open the application.

Starting with Windows 10 build 20161, a new group policy setting was added that enables or disables clipboard sharing with the sandbox.

If you enable or do not configure this policy setting, copy and paste between the host and Windows Sandbox are permitted.

If you disable this policy setting, copy and paste in and out of Sandbox will be restricted.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable clipboard sharing with Windows Sandbox to copy and paste between the host Windows 10 and Windows Sandbox for all users.

You must be signed in as an administrator to enable or disable clipboard sharing with Windows Sandbox.

Windows Sandbox is only available for the Windows 10 Pro and Windows Enterprise editions build 18305 and higher.

I wanted to implement this using a wsb configuration file containing <ClipboardRedirection>Disable</ClipboardRedirection> but it seems that Windows Sandbox ignores this. So I decided to go & look for the policy but there is no policy Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Sandbox , even more strange no registry key either... I tested this on W10 Enterprise 1909 & W10 enterprise 2004. What am I doing wrong here?

    Hello clipper87,

I'm afraid this policy is still only available in the Windows Insiders build 20161 and higher. It's not yet available in the public release of Windows 10.

    Thank you; hat explains...

It's a shame that clipboard sharing with the host is not disabled by default; after all this is a sandbox I'd say...

Do you think this policy setting will be made available to 1909 users or will it only show up in 20H2 or later versions of W10 ?

    Thank you!
