Hello hello. I believe due to a recent Windows 10 update, the "Open here as administrator" is not working.

That or the download file reverted to an earlier version.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello John, and welcome to Ten Forums.

I just tested on my system, and it's still working for me.

Do you mean "Open here as administrator" does nothing for you, or it's not opening elevated?

What location are you using "Open here as administrator"? I'll test the same to see if the same issue or not.

Just to verify, are you being prompted by UAC when using the "Open here as administrator" option?

Thank you for a quick reply Brink.

"Open here as administrator" does nothing. No UAC prompt and the location is any where. In or out of Window directories.

It would seem I have a Windows setting somewhere that is preventing an elevated Command Prompt from the context menu then.

What build of Windows 10 are you running?

I assume the "Open here" part works for you though?

Did you do anything to change UAC settings or disable UAC?

Change User Account Control (UAC) Settings in Windows 10

Enable or Disable User Account Control (UAC) in Windows

Just to rule it out, are you able to open an elevated command prompt using any of the options below?

Yes. The "Open here" part does works.

AFAIK, I didn't change any UAC settings but I will double check now. (It is at default)

I checked the links and even ran the Enable_UAC.reg file to be sure. No luck.

I am able to open an elevated command prompt using the standard Windows methods listed.

In that case, export the registry keys below added by the .reg file and post them here. I'll take a look to make sure they successfully and correctly merged.

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DesktopBackground\shell\CommandPrompt\shell\cmd2

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\CommandPrompt\shell\cmd2

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\CommandPrompt\shell\cmd2

    \registry keys.zip

    My Windows build is: 19042.685

I assume that is what you wanted, yes?

I don't see any issues there.

If you like as a test, download and merge the .reg file below. Afterwards, test by right clicking on your desktop using "Open here as administrator" to see how it works now for you with less quotes in the command.

    desktop_test.reg

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DesktopBackground\Shell\CommandPrompt\shell\cmd2\command]
    @="cmd /c echo|set/p=\"%V\"|powershell -NoP -W 1 -NonI -NoL \"SaPs 'cmd' -Args '/c \"cd /d',$([char]34+$Input+[char]34),'^&^& start /b cmd.exe\"' -Verb RunAs\""

    desktop_test.reg file did not help.

What I haven't tried is using Safe Mode to test. I'll edit this post with the results.

    Edit:

    "Open Here" opens as Administrator.

"Open here as administrator" does nothing still.

I must admit that I'm not sure why the "Open here as administrator" item is not working for you.

Thanks for the help all the same. I really do appreciate it.

I'll keep poking around and if I find a setting that works, I will post on what worked here.
