    How to Add Local Group Policy Editor to Control Panel in Windows


    The Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in that provides a single user interface through which all the the Computer Configuration and User Configuration settings of Local Group Policy objects can be managed.

    Computer Configuration
    Administrators can use Computer Configuration to set policies that are applied to computer, regardless of who logs on to the computers. Computer Configuration typically contains sub-items for software settings, Windows settings, and administrative templates.

    User Configuration
    Administrators can use User Configuration to set policies that apply to users, regardless of which computer they log on to. User Configuration typically contains sub-items for software settings, Windows settings, and administrative templates.

    By default, policies set in the Local Group Policy Editor are applied to all users unless you apply user policy settings for administrators, specific user, or all users except administrators.

    The Local Group Policy Editor is only available in:
    • Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions.
    • Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Pro and Enterprise editions.
    • Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions.

    Local Group Policy Settings Reference:

    This tutorial will show you how to add a Local Group Policy Editor applet to the Control Panel for all users in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

    You must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove Local Group Policy Editor in the Control Panel.

    Here's How:

    1 Do step 2 (add) or step 3 (remove) below for what you would like to do.


    2 To Add "Local Group Policy Editor" to Control Panel

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Add_Local_Group_Policy_Editor_to_Control_Panel.reg

    Download


    3 To Remove "Local Group Policy Editor" from Control Panel

    This is the default setting

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Remove_Local_Group_Policy_Editor_from_Control_Panel.reg

    Download


    4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

    5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

    6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

    7 If the Control Panel is currently open, then close and reopen it to apply.

    8 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

    Being rather curious I did this on one of my Win10 Pro Notebooks, Local Account, Administrator. It worked and showed in Control Panel without a reboot, opened okay.

    Hey mate,

    Correct, restarting the computer is not required.

    You may need to close and reopen the Control Panel if it was open while adding to apply though.
