How to Reset Settings to Default in Microsoft Edge Chromium

Microsoft has adopted the Chromium open source project in the development of Microsoft Edge on the desktop to create better web compatibility. This new Microsoft Edge runs on the same Chromium web engine as the Google Chrome browser, offering you best in class web compatibility and performance.

The new Chromium based Microsoft Edge is supported on all versions of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server (2016 and above), Windows Server (2008 R2 to 2012 R2), and macOS.

If needed, you can reset settings in Microsoft Edge to restore settings to their default values.

This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your favorites, history and saved passwords will not be cleared.

This tutorial will show you how to reset settings to default for your profile in the Chromium based Microsoft Edge.

    Here's How:

    1 Open Microsoft Edge.

2 If you haven't already, switch to the profile you want to reset settings for. (see screenshot below)

3 Click/tap on the Settings and more (Alt+F) 3 dots menu icon, and click/tap on Settings. (see screenshot below)

4 Click/tap on Reset settings in the left pane, and click/tap on the Restore settings to their default values link on the right side. (see screenshot below)

If you do not see a left pane, then either click/tap on the 3 bars menu button towards the top left OR widen the horizontal borders of the Microsoft Edge window until you do.

5 Click/tap on the Reset button to confirm. (see screenshot below)

6 After a moment the Reset settings dialog above will automatically close when it has finished restoring settings to their default values.

7 You can now close the Settings tab if you like.

    That's it,
    Shawn

    Hi Shawn.

I have a picture profile issue in the official Edge Chromium release downloaded yesterday. First it showed my (small) picture n the menu bar like this from Windows Store and in many other apps:

But today it shows the blank picture below in Edge:
How to Reset Settings to Default in Microsoft Edge Chromium-edge1.png

In all my accounts it shows the correct picture (online MSFT as well as local in Account info) I am syncing in Edge and signed in, so the profile(s) is (are corrupted) if I go to the Edge folder there is no default sub-folder and no Profile-1 file
If I click on Profile in settings I see this (no picture):

If I click on Edit Picture I get redirected to MSFT online my account where the correct picture shows.
I deleted the Edge folders (2) as per W10 tutorials but the new edge still shows that blank picture in the menu bar.
I really don't want to start a new W10 login account as that may create all sorts of new issues. I think I should delete all my edge profiles and the Edge default folder that I cannot find. I am working with a RESET (factory state) version of Windows10 x64 Home, build 18363.959 and Edge Chromium was downloaded automatically with IE and then imported my old Edge Chromium settings from before Windows RESET (recovery) form my MSFT online account.
    Any suggestions?
    Frank

    Hello @FrankW,

You could see if using the method in the tutorial below to completely reset Microsoft Edge may help.

It will wipe everything including profiles so you can start fresh.

I did that already Shawn, as I wrote above, same results, no picture, if I add a 2nd profile also no picture shows up, not a big deal but I wonder why I had my picture yesterday in Edge Chromium, where are these profiles stored, can I delete them or the Edge Default folder?

Sorry Frank. I thought you just reset settings like in this tutorial instead of completely resetting using the other tutorial in my post.

Usually when you sign in to your profile in Microsoft Edge with your Microsoft account, it will use the same account picture set for your Microsoft account.

If you sign in to Windows 10 with the same Microsoft account, is the account picture showing correctly in Windows 10?

Yes Shawn, all apps (store etc.,) have my picture in the top right, my account is MSFT sign-in (not local) and I did see that picture in Edge 2 days ago but Windows then "refreshed" either upgrade or update and pooof picture gone from Edge profile(s). I have now Version 84.0.522.52 (Official build) (64-bit) and it is updating so maybe this is a bug...
    Thanks
