I still use windows 7, due to this serious problem,
It seems that bill gates does not use its own system, I do not know how people can use windows 10 without this option.
Maybe only for player games and fun,its ok ,with no this option.
But I use it for work, and organizing folder and file positions is totally essential.
I once read on a website that some admin responsible for windows 10 said that they removed this option, due to users being stupid, and often losing folders or not finding it, when I read this, I didn't believe it, it's the cumulative of tattered peeling.
I still come across this site / topic these days, in my search for a solution, usually every x month I insist again on scouring the entire internet for a solution.
Unhappyly I see that you don't have it yet.

    Loss

Glad you're not giving up. Same here. I do use W10 out of insecurity, and to my daily chagrin. But installed ShellFolderFix so at least folders stay where i leave them. Toothbrushes no longer think they are related to Taxes and Typhoid.
Thanks for explaining a probable reasoning of Microsoft, enlightening and a nice new-year gift.
The whole thing is more than a nuisance, it is deblitating, it encourages and breeds stupidity, a valueless worldview, and a great loss.

This ShellFolderFix, does not work properly for latest versions of windows10, when I tested it I was only able to make it work for very old versions of win10
Unfortunately the ShellFolderFix has been discontinued, from what I've been seeing,I hope that something will come up in the future that can help us

    I'm afraid it's a dead feature.

I'm afraid that being able to disable auto arrange in File Explorer doesn't look like it will ever work again.
We'll have to use a 3rd party File Explorer alternative that may have this feature instead.
Any suggestions for 3rd party software that'll do this? Whether freeware, shareware or payware? I've tried dozens and have not found one that has this feature.

I know it's almost certainly wishful thinking, but I keep checking every now and then to see if there's a solution. The closest I've been able to find is to use a tweaked ubuntu (linux) install, but even that's far from ideal and I have software & hardware that only work in windows. So for now I'm sticking with win7 for as long as I can keep the old beast running.

    Please, Help!!!

I tried the autoarrange trick from this page: How to Disable Auto Arrange in Folders in Windows 10 and then realized it doesn't work anymore. You can rearrange manually the icons, but as soon as you move to another folder, the custom arrangement is lost, so It is of no use. What's more, now the cursor navigation in folders works as bad as the old versions of Windows. I mean, when you are at the rightmost icon in a line, if you press cursor right key, instead of moving to the leftmost icon in the next line, nothing happens. You can move up and down but you can't move right when you are at the rightmost or left when you are at the leftmost.
What's worse, when you delete a file, the next file is not highlighted so if you try to move with the cursors, it takes you to the first icon of the view!
In special folders like Downloads or pictures, the cursors still work the way they work normally.

Trying to get everything back to normal I found this thread and run the bat file Enable_Auto_Arrange_in_File_Explorer.bat but it doesn't work. Autoarrange and Align to grid still appear in the view submenu and the cursor navigation is still broken.

I created a new user account and everything works normally there, so I can see it is a user configuration failure in my profile. How can I fix it?
