Enable or Disable Auto Arrange in Folders in Windows 10

I'd be willing to entertain a technical explanation of the constraints that drove MS's consideration to land us where we are; that is, assuming this was not a deliberate block, what valuable feature was enabled with the impact that Shawn's solution no longer works; or maybe it was an unintended consequence, in which case I ask: why does a manually sort / re-arrange feature not exist, and how does one reach out to MS to request an impact reassessment? Surely there's a way to get their enabled feature and the desired one in this thread? That took effort for me to be that generous...

Yes please do that :). My Feedback Hub App doesn't work, else I would do the same.

MS has a history of removing tools and features that most people use them, for no obvious reason. (start menu comes to mind) and it will take a loud voice of unhappy users to get their attention. and this f-ups are not always intentional. just look what first 1809 update did to user files.
anyhow, I'll sign any petition regarding this subject. count me in.

I tried this on Windows 10 Home, Verison 1809, OS Build 17763.316. It does disable auto-arrange, but resets the files back to their normal places when you close or reset the folder. Better than nothing, but Microsoft can, and must do better than this. They need to stop touching such weird things that don't need to be fixed. ��

It has been like this for a few years now. I've used it for years to re-arrange picture sequences. If it helps, I keep the new file order by simply renaming the list of changed files in the desired order.

Hello. Is it possible to completely undo the effects caused by the BATCH file? I've arranged the folder that I needed to and now would like to completely undo the changes. Please help

Download the .bat file in Step 5 or just uncheck the 'Auto arrange' option in r-click 'View', if you think you'll use it again.
