I wish if I had looked in to this before.
Updated my Windows to 1709, and I used the registry files right after the update boot, and it worked fine for my document, and most folders.
Except few ones that kept sorting by name, I disabled and enabled the trick. Now they all keep sorting back to name

    Maybe there is still hope?

I'd really wish if Microsoft would stop treating their users as imbeciles

Is there a solution like this one?

windows 10 - Win 10 Update disables align to grid option - Super User

This one seems to be successful in disabling auto-grid.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello James, :)

Thank you. However, that is the manual method for turning on/off the "Auto Arrange" and "Align icons to grid" for only your desktop like below instead.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work when using the same method for File Explorer.

It appears to be a dead deprecated feature now.

Disable Windows update service, don't update to latest build, it's security nightmare, that will strip half your software of their features.
    The 1607 is more friendly.
MS became very obsessed with security, they ruined user experience.

Why they have to nix every feature that people like is beyond me.
