Enable or Disable Auto Arrange in Folders in Windows 10  

Windows 10 64bit Home user here with Version 1703 Creators Update OS Build 15063.483 . Having applied Disable_Auto_Arrange-Large_Icons.bat i am able to arrange desktop icons to where ever i want and it sticks even after reboots . Icons staying large as well . The only thing it does not do is allow me to move folders , files around within Windows Explorer. That seems to be the only fix left to do with Large Icons bat . :) Thanks for your excellent work on previous .bat fixes and hopefully there will be a cure for the world's frustrations on this matter too.

A month later and still no fix for disabling auto arrange in File Explorer post Windows Creators Update... I guess we will have to use 3rd party apps or revert back to previous versions , folks .

What about creating a 3rd party for this issue? I would assume that after a few months if there was a work a round someone would have discovered or found a way. It might be best to create an app that deals with this issue, not like we can expect Microsoft to help with this issue.

I'm new to this, so forgive me if it's been discussed earlier. I had a satisfactory work-around to the disabling auto arrange prior to the latest update. Now I see the warning at the top of this thread that it no longer works as it once did. I'm not 100% sure that what I'm asking for is, in fact, "auto arrange disabling." If I may describe my scenario, perhaps you could confirm that this is my issue.

When traveling, my husband and I both use our cell phones to take pictures, and I also use my regular camera, and my kids use their tablets. Upon returning home and downloading photos to my computer from all those sources, I then attempt to organize all the pictures by day, and merge all the sources together chronologically. That all works fine - as long as we stay in the same time zone AND all our cameras are synced up with each other. I can just do a "sort by date taken" and it's all easy. However, if I forget to sync up our cameras, it becomes a nightmare to put them in chronological order. Therefore, I resort to manually trying to move the images around and renaming them to "lock" them in an order that I can easily sort (sort by name). This is where it gets tricky. I can get them all rearranged the way I want them, but when I go to renumber them, the window refreshes and I lose the order that I had managed to create. Is there ANY way to make this process easier? I long for the ease of Windows XP that would let you put things in any order you wanted, and would keep them that way, no matter how they were named.

Hope the new update would enable us allow you to arrange items in any order and position again.

Disabling auto arrange would allow you to arrange items in any order and position within a folder. Unfortunately, it no longer works properly anymore.

For your situation, it may be better to import the photos to another folder when the dates are incorrect so you can rename them there, then move them into your usual photos folder to help keep them sorted how you wanted.

can someone tell me if this is already working with the new windows fall creators update?
it is quite annoying to me working with the auto-arrange
if is not working (and since people that work on windows are all dumb to dont understand that there is people annoyed by it and want them to give us a way to disable auto-arrange ), can someone fix the issue?
