This might be what I want.
A summary of my situation.
Two mapped drives (drive letters) for NAS. My original intention was for this to be on 24/7/365, but it no longer is the case due to the energy crisis.
I also have a "network location" pointing to a shared drive on my laptop which is not on 24/7.
Now the problem that I have noticed is when saving files (even to ramdisk), there will be a random pause before the file is saved, browsing file explorer on the main this pc location can be quite laggy, if I let it sit there, the two NAS network drives will be constantly refreshing between a green tick and red cross, as if windows has been coded in a really dumb way to constantly hammer them. The address bar will keep refreshing a progress bar as well to reflect this.
Now I could remove the network drives, and the network location, but then its a pain to access these drives again, as I have to type in a network address manually in the address box.
To me the most common sense way this could have been coded by microsoft is to never automatically check these drives/locations, and only try to access them when its done interactively by the operator.
I am really hoping this network tweak triggers this wanted behaviour, and I will report back in this thread on the result when I have a chance to try it. :)

Guys thank you so much, it fixed all this weird behaviour with explorer shell windows randomly pausing.
