How to Change Startup Page in Microsoft Edge Chromium

Microsoft has adopted the Chromium open source project in the development of Microsoft Edge on the desktop to create better web compatibility. This new Microsoft Edge runs on the same Chromium web engine as the Google Chrome browser, offering you best in class web compatibility and performance.

The new Chromium based Microsoft Edge is supported on all versions of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server (2016 and above), Windows Server (2008 R2 to 2012 R2), and macOS.

You can set Microsoft Edge to open a new tab (default), continue where you left off, or open a specific page or pages on startup.

This tutorial will show you how to change the startup of the Chromium based Microsoft Edge to open a new tab, continue where you left off, or open a specific page or pages by default.

EXAMPLE: Microsoft Edge is set to "Open a new tab" by default on startup

3 Do step 4 (new tab), step 5 (continue where you left off), or step 6 (specific page or pages) below for how you want Microsoft Edge to open on startup.

4 Set Microsoft Edge to "Open a new tab" on Startup

This setting will open the New tab page at startup by default when you open Microsoft Edge.

    A) Click/tap on On startup in the left pane, select (dot) Open a new tab on the right side, and go to step 7. (see screenshots below)

Starting with Microsoft Edge Canary, you will need to click/tap on Start, home, and new tabs in the left pane instead, and select (dot) Open the new tab page instead.

If you do not see a left pane, then either click/tap on the 3 bars menu button towards the top left OR widen the horizontal borders of the Microsoft Edge window until you do.

    A) Click/tap on On startup in the left pane, select (dot) Continue where you left off on the right side, and go to step 7. (see screenshot below)

Starting with Microsoft Edge Canary, you will need to click/tap on Start, home, and new tabs in the left pane instead, and select (dot) Open tabs from the previous session instead.

If you do not see a left pane, then either click/tap on the 3 bars menu button towards the top left OR widen the horizontal borders of the Microsoft Edge window until you do.

@Brink I hope this isn't to OT for this thread but I'm wondering if you know of any way to stop a new tab from opening by default when you already have specific pages for Edge (Dev) to open on start up.

I asked the question in the Edge Dev thread but haven't been able to find anything out from any sources I've looked at. I tried a reset of Edge Dev but no change.

Post #1381 here shows what I mean:

    Hello @Mooly,

It may be a bug in that version. Version 79.0.309.18 (stable) will only open the specified sites on startup for me.

Thanks for your thoughts on that Shawn The issue did only appear with the latest current build, all others have been fine up that point.

Okey dokey... I'll probably sit it out and see what happens with later builds. I've reported it anyway with the feedback option on Dev browser.
