this may or may not work..open the file in an image editor, aka windows paint, paint.net etc, save as a jpg, give it a name...try opening it then?
I've had the odd issue with an image where saving it again sometimes fixes it. this however does not always work, so...
Hope this is the correct place to ask this. I did the tutorial and got it working. But I have one problem. It takes literally anywhere from 60-90 seconds to open up Windows Photo Viewer anytime I open up an image. It's incredibly slow. Once it's open and up and running, I can open other images in less than a second. But if I close it and then try to open another image, it again takes a long time to open.
I couldn't find too much with online in regards to this but I did find one site that suggested changing the cache size.
This didn't work for me. I also read that it might be a color profile problem. So I set my default profile to the sRBG ICC profile like you suggested for the person who had a strange tint in his photos. That didn't help either. So I'm turning to you to see if you can help me.If above mentioned solutions don't work for you, then it might be a cache problem. I found a Registry tweak on Microsoft support to disable Windows Photo Viewer cache feature which can fix this slowness problem:
1. Type regedit in RUN or Start search box and press Enter. It'll open Registry Editor.
2. Now go to following key:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Photo Viewer\Viewer3. In right-side pane, create a new DWORD CacheSize and set its value to 0
Btw, this problem has persisted across two different installs. Both full clean installs. I did this before but because it was so slow I reverted back to the other photo program. Then I upgraded my OS hard drive and did another clean install of Windows. I just decided to do the tutorial again and again I'm suffering from a slow Windows Photo Viewer. Any advice on what could be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
Hello theuseddversion, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)
Normally this could be from a corrupted color calibration in Color Management. Since this happens to you right after a clean install without doing anything else first, I'm not sure what could be causing it. So far, I'm not having any slow opening Windows Photo Viewer issues on my systems though.
Did you set Windows Photo Viewer as the default program at step 9?
Yes, I did.I just noticed that I have two different versions of Windows Photo Viewer in my "Open with" though.
I couldn't get it to fit on one image since I had to scroll. Regardless, both versions are slow and I get the same performance out of both of them. *shrugs* Not sure what else to do.
It's normal for "Windows Photo Viewer" to show twice like, but it's for the same one.
I'm not sure what else to suggest other than seeing if a repair install may sort it for you without losing anything. You'll have to enable Windows Photo Viewer again afterwards though.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
I downloaded and merged the registry fix as per the instructions and I'm still not getting a listing for Windows Photo Viewer in Settings/Default Apps/Photo Viewer. When I click on this I just get Photos and Paint and Look for an app in the store offered. If I right click a photo and choose open with, there is no windows photo viewer choice. If I go into the old control panel and try to set defaults there, it does list window photo viewer, but states it has all its defaults which seems to be tiff files. In any case, I can't get it to list to
choose it in Settings/Default Apps or on a right click.
