Windows 10: Windows Photo Viewer - Restore in Windows 10
Just to be absolutely clear, I don't want my mechanical drives spinning at all unless absolutely necessary.
So Telling my drives to never turn off means they're always running...
But again, this is one of my biggest complaints about Win 10, it starts up the mechanical drives at every opportunity & I would guess that in most cases it doesn't have to.
Even if you exclude them from search indexing and or Defender scanning they will still spin up, they just won't be scanned.

You might set Turn off hard disk after to an hour to see how that works for you. This way they won't spin up as often if they have to be idle for an hour before turning off.
Thanks Brink. I've been looking for that.
I'm glad it could help Clint.
I have run 'Restore_Windows_Photo_Viewer.reg' several times now to no avail. Initially it worked that day, but since then the only way I can get Photo Viewer is to right click on a file and click 'Open With' then select PV. Any thoughts on what is up?
After you merge the .reg file, be sure that you also do step 8 to set Windows Photo Viewer as the default program.
It is now! I guess I so glad to have it back I forgot to make sure that I had followed all the steps.
I am so glad the Forum is here and you and the others give your time to help folks like me!
I'm new to the forum and windows 10, so hope I'm posting in the right place!
I used to be able to arrange photos in any order and view them in that order(in Windows XP).
I am trying to get that option back in Windows 10. I have been able to follow directions and am now able to drag/drop photos within a folder and rearrange them in that way. However, when I go to the photoviewer, they are not in that order. In fact, they are not even in the original order except the first one or maybe two.
Is it even possible to view in the order I rearrange them in (in the viewer, using the forward/back arrow keys)?
Thanks for any help!
Hello Becca, and welcome to Ten Forums.
I added step 3 in the tutorial to fix that for you.
I noticed a few builds ago (maybe 10162) that you could no longer set Windows Photo Viewer as the default picture opener. Now, it seems that MS is forcing you to use the Photos "app" instead.
Is anyone else getting this issue?
Cough. Hi there fellow forumers. I need your help. I've already know this problem of mine is a rather common problem among Windows 10 users. When I wish to open a picture with our good old Windows Photo Viewer, simply nothing happens or even if...
Jpg photo unable to open in windows photo viewer. i reset default apps. i choose default apps by file type.
I really liked the Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 7... The photo viewer built into Windows 10 is terrible.
Anyone know any good replacements? Something light weight.
When watching photos in Windows Photo Viewer all colors are added a "yellow" look. How do I change that so it looks normal?
If I resize the window so there are borders, they are yellow allso! Look at attached eksample.
