I reinstalled the photos app and undo the photo viewer registry hack , but still I'm not able to see the default "Ėdit" option, Something is broken in the registry I guess,,Is there any way to fix it?
I must admit that I'm not sure why "Edit" is missing from your context menu.

As a workaround for now, you could use "Open with" and select the app (ex: "Paint") to edit the image with. Just be sure to not select "Always use this app" causing it to be the default app.

    Webp support in photoviewer??

    Shawn,
thanks for all the work you put into this tutorial.
From what I can see in the registry mod, there isn't explicit support for webp files, which are supposed to be supported in Photo Viewer even though not supported in Photos.
Any chance that your approach can be extended to support webp as well?

This tutorial works for me on both Win10 and Win11. I have the .webp files opening in Windows Photo Viewer and there is no Edit on the right-click but the Open with has Paint which also can work with the file type but doesn't list .webp as a choice in Save as.

    OK, thanks for the info.
I've now got it working, but I'm wondering if you see the same behavior that I do viewing webp images on Photo Viewer: the image initially loads correctly, then becomes very dark and with higher color saturation. Are you seeing this?

The easiest way to get a .webp to test this is to right-click on a user's avatar and save it. Yes, I see that too (Windows 11). I wouldn't say very dark, but certainly darker than it should be when compared to opening it in MS Paint, or in any browser.

I get a small very short flash in black with white letters in the middle of the window but goes away too quickly to read.

Just follow the procedure on the page above, and it works!!!

There's a bunch of nonsense in various forums about monitor calibration, ICM files, graphics drivers....it's all drivel. Apply this CODEC first!

Thanks for this Brink and edit option stayed on the context menu.

It is laggy to load vs both paint and IrfanView, but still a nice option to have this back.
