Shawn Brink, I've done Option 2 and it works perfectly, with one issue: Now, whenever I click on a .pdf file, it opens with Acrobat Pro 10 as it should, but the icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen for that pdf is now the "Win 10 photos" icon like this:, not the acrobat icon like this:
. Any idea why, or how to fix that?

It may be a glitch with the icon. If so, you can see if rebuilding the icon cache below will fix it.

Shawn, I did the icon rebuild, but still have the same issue. It's odd--- if I open Acrobat first, then double click a PDF, the icon in the toolbar is correct. It only happens when I double click a PDF when Acrobat is NOT already open.
Switched it to Bluebeam. Icon showed up in the toolbar as Bluebeam. Switched it back to Acrobat, icon in the toolbar is still "photos".

I'm new here, so I hope this is a good place to ask this.
I found this thread looking for a way to bypass Photos in Windows 10. My problem has been not being able to choose which photos to transfer, and to what destination. I find the new Photos default impossible cumbersome and impossible to figure out. I prefer to save photos from my phone to folders on an external drive or in my documents/photos.
Before I try option 2, I would like to know if this will make it possible to view the photos on my phone before transferring selectively, or to import all and organize them on my pc directly into subfolders in my pictures folder?
