What happened was using my printer, I scanned a document (in .jpeg) and could not open it nor could I do anything with it. That led me to seeing the default 'Open with' deal was set to that darn TWINUI thing. So over-night I did a 'refresh' of the OS and woke up to all those strange defaults being set. At least your 'merge' apps got me back on the right track on this post/tutorial but for some reason 'some' of those photo options were grayed out. I'm thinking I may have to do another 'clean' install.

Yeah you may have a point about changing the ownership of C:\drive.

Hi Shaun, great work on this reg file fix. I'm running into an issue: I ran " 3. To Restore Windows Photo Viewer for All Users with Sort Order Fix", and when I use the right-click "Image Preview" context menu to view in Windows Photo Viewer, the result is sorting in alphabetical order, NOT in the order set by the folder. I can only get the correct sorting by 'Open With' -> Windows Photo Viewer.

Is there any way to achieve the correct sorting via the 'Image Preview' context menu?

Hello eQuilter, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Do you have Windows Photo Viewer set as the default app?

If so, does it use the sort order when you click on an image to open in Windows Photo Viewer?

I don't normally have Windows Photo Viewer set as the default app, because I prefer to have Photoshop as the default app, and then I use the context menu when I want to use Windows Photo Viewer.

If I set Windows Photo Viewer as the default app and double click an image file, then it does use the correct folder sort order. But still, the context 'Image Preview' doesn't sort correctly.

How can I have the context menu 'Image Preview' sort correctly?

I'm not sure the sort order can be fixed for the "Image Preview" option, but I'll keep looking to hopefully find something.

Thank you for looking further into this issue; it would be most helpful if we can figure out how to get the sorting working with the 'Image Preview' context menu.

Question, should I back-up my registry before doing this?

    Hello leftisthominid,

No need to. You can use the "Undo" options to reverse the "Restore" options.

Another issue I've discovered is that whenever I Right-Click -> Open With -> Windows Photo Viewer, then Windows 10 sets this as the default open program (I'm NOT specifying to always open with Windows Photo Viewer, but it does so anyway). This is a problem because I want to maintain Photoshop as the default app to open jpg files.

The Right-Click -> Image Preview does not change the default app, so that's better, but the sorting doesn't work this way.
