I'm afraid File Explorer and Windows Photo Viewer doesn't include that feature.

I'm trying to remember if Photo Gallery had a feature like that back in the day?

I am sure I had an application with that feature, but I am not sure about the name. Was ist Photo Viewer of Photo Gallery? I don't remember, but I found other nostalgic requests like mine googleing. Of that reactions I can make up it was a photo application in Windows XP; I had it on my Vista system I am sure. I made a request in the Windows Feedback-hub. But if that will help?

Ah! That would've been Filmstrip Folder View Mode in Windows XP! A discontinued feature since Windows 7, replaced by the Preview Pane feature.

I think you're right. Now we wait and see what the Windows engineers can do!

Thank you for the info. I love having the photo viewer back. After I loaded it, I noticed the left 1/3 of my screen became shaded - see attached photos. It is shaded in all programs. Could this registry script cause this? Thanks.

Hello Mark, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

I haven't seen any reports of this happening to anyone else. You can test this by using the "undo" .reg file in the tutorial to see if you still have this issue afterwards, but it shouldn't cause this at all though.

Have you recently updated your graphics driver? You might check to see if that could be the issue.

Hi Brink - thank-you for the reply. I'm beginning to think the problem is the monitor connection through the laptop hinge, as the shading increases and decreases in intensity as I open and close the lid. I only happened to notice it right after loading the photo viewer script - strange coincidence. Photo viewer seems to work great - thanks so much.

I hope it's not a hardware issue with the screen and just a driver issue.

I successfully restored Windows Photo Viewer in my Windows 10 installation. But Photo Viewer as I know it, had a filmstrip under the larger picture where one could see the other pictures in the same folder. This was very handy because the pictures in the filmstrip could easily be copied into another folder by swiping the picture to that folder. I did not find this filmstrip in the refound installation. Somebody here can tip me to bring this fantastic feature back?
DigiCam has the feature if you enable image preview. You can select thumbnail from "filmstrip" and drag it to any folder in the navigation pane. There's no need to make it the default photo viewer.
