Hopefully, they'll still open on his computer, and just some issue on your computer.

Do you have any backups created that could contain copies of the images?

If they are corrupted, then there are 3rd party programs out there that may be able to repair some of them.

Nooo :'( I haven't tried it on his computer. If they are really corrupted, is there any way I can save them?
    From your post:

After the virus, it changed every file on my computer which I could not open any file or documents. My cousin helped me extract the pictures to see if the virus really altered them. And it didn't. I could open the pictures on his desktop and my new desktop.

I would be suspicious. How were the pictures determined to be not altered? There are conflicting statements here.

Hi, I couldn't find any clear information regarding this...

Will this solution (change registry to get Windows Photo Viewer) work on a recently purchased NEW Windows 10 computer i.e. NOT a old computer updated to Windows 10 from 8 or 8.1?

Don't want to mess around with registry on new computer if it won't work.

    Clarification/help would be appreciated.

I am so pleased to get Photo Viewer back. It is so much better than Photos. It works faster and doesn't treat you like an idiot. Thank You.

I really do wish they'd just give us the option to decide which of the two we want to use already and be done with it, rather than force the user base down tutorial alley(no offence to anyone here). we shouldnt have to go to these lengths just to use something we know, like, and indeed prefer.

Brink, are there any risks to any of these methods? Would using any of them run any risk of damaging the registry in a way that could cause BSODs or any other type of issue?

Also, I have a question regarding this particular method:

    3. To Restore Windows Photo Viewer for All Users with Sort Order Fix

    Note
This option does the same as step 2 above, but allows you to view files in the same order that you arranged them in.

This option does cause Windows Photo Viewer to be listed twice in Open with -> Choose an app.

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 5 below.

    Restore_Windows_Photo_Viewer_ALL_USERS_with_Sort_order_fix.reg

I noticed that you said that it causes Windows Photo Viewer to be listed twice in "Open With". Is this at all problematic? Is it a sign of any sort of registry damage or corruption? And does it matter which one of the two instances of Windows Photo Viewer one selects from the "Open With" menu, or do each of them provide identical results?

And unless I'm mistaken, the advantage of using this particular method is that it allows one to view files in the order of (for example) date modified, name, size, etc (whichever way the folder is currently sorted in Windows Explorer), which the other methods of restoring Photos Viewer do not allow one to do. Is this correct?
