..why'd they even mess with the photo viewer anyways? this windows 10 app takes a bit to load, doesnt do crisply zoomed in images without a good deal of arguing, and is generally a pain in the butt to use.
Whenever I try to run either of the option 2 reg files I get the following error:
'Cannot import path\Restore_Windows_Photo_Viewer_ALL_USERS.reg: Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes, or you have insufficient privileges to perform this operation.'
This is on LTSC 2019. I have seen someone else who says option 2 worked on LTSC 2019.
Any ideas?
Hi Blink, thanks for your reply.
Yes absolutely I am signed is as an admin account.
Let me rephrase that, absolutely not!
Sorry, got confused with a test VM that I've been doing other things on, very rarely not logged in as a local admin but on this occasion I was, sorry, been a long week.
Ok, I'm surprised, this works well on LTSC 2019. Step one complete.
Now I just need to figure out how to make that the default for all users for common image types.
No problem.
For all users, you'll need to use Option Two while signed in as an administrator unless you want to have them each use option 1.
I have used Option 2.
The admin user I ran the reg merge as gets presented with the Windows 10 'How do you want to open this file?' dialogue and can then choose to always use Windows Photo Viewer. Other non admin users do not get that dialogue, the images just open straight in paint. They can then manually go to open with > Choose another app, and then tick the 'Always use this app to open .x files' and that then works.
However I really need these files to just open straight in Windows Photo Viewer, without any user interaction. This is why I am saying I now need to sort out the file associations, which seems a bit though in W10.
I'm not sure how to apply the file association to all existing users since this is a per user setting.
Normally, they'll have to set Windows Photo Viewer as the default app for their account.
