    Hi, guys!..:)

    The TenForums .reg files are really elaborate, while -some- others aren't as expansive. Are there any particular reasons for this, other than what we can see being added in the .reg files?

    For example, the How-To Geek (created by Walter Glenn):

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    "Clsid"="{60fd46de-f830-4894-a628-6fa81bc0190d}"

    ... The difference being that the TenForums' .reg file is adding the following File Types, so that they'll be (automagically) recognized when double-clicking; and so that the default won't be the Open with... dialog?!

    Code:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Photo Viewer\Capabilities\FileAssociations]
    ".cr2"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    ".jpg"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Jpeg"
    ".wdp"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Wdp"
    ".jfif"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.JFIF"
    ".dib"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Bitmap"
    ".png"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Png"
    ".jxr"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Wdp"
    ".bmp"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Bitmap"
    ".jpe"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Jpeg"
    ".jpeg"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Jpeg"
    ".gif"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Gif"
    ".tif"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"
    ".tiff"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff"

    That's all the difference, right?? & Please excuse me if I'm being captain obvious, tnx! (Really, I'm just asking! :))

    Hello @kgbme,

    You would still need to set Windows Photo Viewer as the default app to have it used by those file types.

    Those entries are there to specify what file association reference to use when Windows Photo Viewer is the default app for the file type. They were there originally before Windows Photo Viewer was removed from Windows 10. We try to make sure all original entries get added back to be as thorough as possible.

    When Windows Photo Viewer is restored and set as the default image viewer, the right-click context menu entry is "Preview" to open with Windows Photo Viewer, correct? As opposed to when Photos is set as the default image viewer, then Edit with Photos is the context menu entry to pen. Thanks!

    Hello,

    The "Image Preview" context menu will open it in Windows Photo Viewer.

    "Edit" will open it in Paint (mspaint.exe).

    "Edit with Photos" will open it in the Photos app, but you shouldn't see this context menu if Windows Photo Viewer is set as your default "Photo viewer".

    Ok got it. So the Image Preview right-click context menu is restored along with Windows Photo Viewer when set as default, correct? Without having to add the right-click menu entry into the registry.
