Preview with Windows Photo Viewer and Open (double-click) with Paint

I've read through all 44+ pages on this thread as well as a 100 or more other websites trying to find a solution to this issue.

I was succesful in getting Windows Photo Viewer back and once again able to right-click on an image and choose the Preview.

What I would like to be able to do in addition to having the Preview option in Windows Photo Viewer is to double-click on the image in File Manager and have it open in Paint or whatever other image editor I choose.

Is it possible to have the Preview option work like it did in all previous versions of Windows without replacing the default program that actually opens the file for editing?

Hello Tim, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Unfortunately, double clicking on a the image will only open the image in the default app set for that file type.

If you like, you could right click on the image and use Open with to select an app to edit/open the file in without making that app the default.

Was able to at least view my jpeg files again but not all...some default jpe options are blank, although I ran the merge files listed above. Somehow my Photo options was turned into that TWINUI or Paint option and the Windows Store option comes back 'your cache may be or is corrupted' using the store troubleshooter. This is a recent issue and there have been no updates....it just appeared.

    Hello Sam,

Are you able to select Windows Photo Viewer from the Open with context menu for the file?

just ran winaero and it had 'activate windows photo viewer' clicked on that an was able to get all the jpe jpeg an other files to open with Windows Photo viewer; going down the open file by app option.
Curious as to how that TWINUI thing somehow inserted itself into the 'Open With' options along with making itself the default option...weird to say the least.
Also no matter what I try can not get the Windows Store app to work at all. Power Shell commands that supposedly reset that thing all show errors; and clicking on it's icon I get registry errors too.

Updates can reset things back to default.

I just tested Option 2 on my system to see if anything may have changed, but it still worked fine on .jpe files for me.

I tried all the merge apps you created...three if I remember correctly. Two were for All Users and one for Current Users. For some reason all three would not let me choose a 'per file' option per say. For instance the .jpe file option would be grayed out.
An I am the Administrator for this machine, but I kept getting 'permission' issues. I've made myself the 'owner' of all of my drives, folders & files etc. I feel like I'm butting heads with good ole MicroShaft on some things.

Changing the owner of the Windows drive could cause issues.
