Hello jjolly, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Just to note, its name is "Windows Photo Viewer".

Did you try step 2 in Option Two?

I'm sorry to have to ask this, but: Is the download to install Windows Photo Viewer from this site (above) safe? Silly question really because someone could always say yes, of course it is, when it isn't. I absolutely love my computer but the Windows 10 Photo app is so clumsy and busy (terrible, actually) compared to the beloved Windows Photo Viewer, that I want back. That being said, not at the risk of downloading a virus. On another site, I saw the script written out that merges with the registry (and referenced this site to find the script). How am I able to tell that there is no embedded virus? Thank you so much. C

Hello Coaster, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Yes, anything I post is always 100% safe and tested.

You can right click on the downloaded .reg file and click on "Edit" to see its content.

    Hi Brink!.

First of all, Thank you! - This has been a real lifesaver.

Second; I've come across a strange issue in Outlook 2016 after applying this Windows Photoviewer fix.
For some reason; when opening attached pictures, we'll get prompted for "Do you want to keep using this app".?.
The weird thing is option to use the "%1" App - See below.:

Doing some research made me come across the below registrystring:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jpg\OpenWithList]
This has an option to use "DllHost.exe" as option "b". (Which is the %1 App). If I delete this key - It recreates itself when opening the file again - Which then will again prompt for which app to use - Eventhough its already set to default as "Photoviewer.dll".

Is there a fix for this?

    Much appriciated - Thanks!

Hello JMT, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If you like, see if downloading and merging the .reg file for the "jpg" file type in Option Two below may be able to sort your "Open with" issue with this file type. It will restore its associations back to default.

    Thanks for the fast reply!
I've tried restoring the file associations for JPEG, JPG and PNG.
Unfortunatly - This does not fix the issue.
Still get prompted with the "Do you want to keep using Photoviewer" message.
This only happens in Outlook 2016 - Directly in explorer, there is no issue.
