    Brink,

I almost read through all the replies and see if I could figure it out myself before asking you. I followed your steps and restored WPV on my new desktop. After setting it to default, I see that the picture icons are changed. However, it says "WPV can't open this picture because either PV doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to PV". I think I saw somebody experienced this also, but I didn't find a solution to it.

Let me give you a little background. I got this new desktop about a month ago due to my old one being attacked by some viruses (because I accidentally downloaded some file and ran it). After the virus, it changed every file on my computer which I could not open any file or documents. My cousin helped me extract the pictures to see if the virus really altered them. And it didn't. I could open the pictures on his desktop and my new desktop. I remember at least a few weeks ago, the pictures were still showing. And yesterday I noticed none of them can be opened or viewed anymore except videos. Could you please guide me what I can do to have these pictures back? Because they are my last copy

Sorry for the long message, I really hope you are able to help me >..<

Hello @crystal1120, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

What file format does the images use?

What did you use to open them with before?

Since this computer is new, I haven't downloaded any software to use. So it was using "Photos".

What file format does the images use?

Do the images work properly if you set the Photos app as the default again?

They are all jpg files. I just tried to switch it back to "Photos". It still says they can't open the file.

Also, I have some pictures that are NEF file, and those are fine with either WPV or Photos

It sounds like the images may have been corrupted somehow.

Only changing the default app wouldn't have caused this.

As a test, will the images still open on your cousin's desktop?

Nooo :'( I haven't tried it on his computer. If they are really corrupted, is there any way I can save them?
