Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro

Here's an FYI.

Upgraded Win 10 Home to Pro with a Win 7 Pro retail key.

Surprisingly enough, Win 10 Home accepted the Win 7 key in the "Change product key" dialog, and proceeded to upgrade to Win 10 Pro.

Once done, it went online and activated the Pro install with a digital licence automatically.

Now, how geeky-licious is that?

Thanks for the useful guide.

I would like to install Windows 10 Pro on a device that appears to be only available for purchase with Windows 10 Home installed. The devices that I am looking at are listed below:

- HP Spectre X360 15: http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Pr...pt=ABU&sel=NTB
- Lenovo Yoga 720 15: Shopping basket | Lenovo UK

Would the guide listed here work with these devices? are there any hardware requirements to allow a successful upgrade?

You shouldn't have any issues upgrading from Windows 10 Home to Pro on those PCs.

If you like, there's often an option to customize your PC order to select which Windows 10 (Home or Pro) you want preinstalled on it.

I even upgraded my Linx 8 32bit Atom tablet to Pro without any issues.

Tried clean installing again .

Thanks for the instructions --but :

Whatever I did it wanted to charge a Credit card 121 EUR -- however when I entered product key of BOLL----- and hit enter it then went to the upgrade screen and nothing taken off Credit card(s).

I never gave Credit card numbers either.

What a Dogs dinner !!!

Anyway thanks --all working now with clean installs.

Looks like the magic word is that one which starts with BOLL* and means "Little Round Objects" so somebody in Ms is on the same wavelength as me !!!!!!.

All fixed so solution solved -- enter BOLL at enter product key in the first group of characters if you already have a digital licence !!!!!.

At step 5, OEM "product keys will not be accepted" It must be a retail key. This is not entirely true. If you try to upgrade from Windows 10 home(oem) and enter VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T it will reject it (error 0xC004F050 I believe). However if you unplug your network cable at step 6, then press Start, it will proceed to upgrade to Windows 10 pro. Once your pc has restarted you can then enter your own Windows 10 professional key. This saves you from having to do a complete re-install with a modified ei.cfg etc. (This was tested on a fully up to date Windows 10 home system)

If you got Windows 10 by...	Activation method
Upgrading to Windows 10 for free from an eligible device running a genuine copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.	Digital license
Buying a Windows 10 Pro upgrade from the Microsoft Store and successfully activated Windows 10.	Digital license
Being a Windows Insider and upgrading to the newest Windows 10 Insider Preview build on an eligible device that was running an activated earlier version of Windows and Windows 10 Preview.	Digital license
Buying genuine Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store app.	Digital license
Buying a copy of Windows 10 from an authorized retailer.	Product key Find it on a label inside the Windows 10 box. A digital license will be given to your device for Windows 10 based on the valid product key you entered. If you bought your PC from a manufacturer, the manufacturer, not Microsoft, must provide a product key.
Buying a digital copy of Windows 10 from an authorized retailer.	Product key Find it in the confirmation email you received after buying Windows 10 or in a digital locker accessible through the retailer’s website. A digital license will be given to your device for Windows 10 based on the valid product key you entered.
Having a Volume Licensing agreement for Windows 10 or MSDN subscription.	Product key It is available through the web portal for your program.
Buying a new or refurbished device running Windows 10.	Product key It is preinstalled on your device, included with the device packaging, or included as a card or on the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) attached to the device.
