    Hi,
Well, I've been thinking 'bout this since January 14th 2019 and I imagine there's no better time than the present to start getting ready to do the deed.

I'll be doing the upgrade on a Gateway (now Acer) DX4831-01e that was built back in July 2009 and the wife and I picked it up at Best Buy over the '09 -'10 holidays. By all appearances it looks to meet the minimum requirements my one concern is drivers.
What I'm thinking of doing if it happens is to reach step 9 to see what if anything needs updated, and if so cancel the upgrade fix what needs fixing then start again.

I already have macrium back-ups on this 7box and will make sure I have a newer back-up before I upgrade.

    Thank you so much Shawn.
I found this website yesterday after considering buying win10. I followed the very clear instructions (albeit with trepidation as have heard some people say they had problems with win10 upgrades). However my Win7 pro was running very slow & glitchy and i thought it was time to either upgrade OS or buy new machine.

I have a pretty decent PC (Intel core i-5 8 gig ram) and thought to myself it needed a new lease of life. So worth a risk!
I am SO glad I gave this a go- it all ran very smoothly. I did an system image cd first and then got going. Not a single glitch with the install and left it updating overnight and found myself with a faster cleaner nicer looking PC in the morning!

Love my version of win 10 Pro- feels 'classy' and os is running way way faster and smoother than in months!
    Thank you all!!

If that was done using the built in Microsoft system imaging in Backup & Restore then you should to know that this has been a deprecated feature for more than two years.

We recommend that users use full-disk backup solutions from other vendors.

For any future system images have a look at Macrium Reflect Free, many here recommend it.

A couple of items I'm thinking about.

1.) I've had GWX Control Panel running on this 7box since win10 and its entourage decided to pummel win7 users to do the upgrade. I glad that I remembered that and went to the developer's site to see if there are any pre-requisits to returning win7 to upgradable status and there are; So if anyone else has GWX running you should check this out and consider your options.

Go to this page: I HAVE USED GWX CONTROL PANEL IN THE PAST BUT NOW I'M READY TO UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO? and scroll down to #4.

For more help there are these next two:
    Using GWX, and Troubleshooting GWX

That may not be a couple but I can't recall the second item.

It was.. except windows has started rebooting without warning. Happened twice in last 15 minutes and once yesterday. Even happened whilst i was typing this message here.
Causes a big issue when you're in the middle of something
hoping it's not a hardware issue.

    Any tips?

    I'm sorry to hear that.

I would recommend to create a new thread for this issue in General Support with as many details as possible to see what we can do to help.

Will it be long before the Tool is updated to 1909 - am waiting for that (at least)????
I'm also wondering if this might fix the problem I have in W7 with outgoing faxes.

    Hey Peter,

There are rumors that 1909 may be released sometime this month, but we shall see.
