Hyper-V - Add Windows XP Mode Virtual Machine in Windows 10

Bit more info on XP VM's :

For NAS connections and XP VM's you need to do the following

1) In your smb.config file add :

[global]
lanman auth=yes
ntlm auth=yes
maxprotocol = NT1 (note SAMBA V4 and greater --needs to be set to NT1 !!!!!)

2) on the XP system you might need to allow XP NTLM SSP via XP registry -- only do that if the SAMBA configuration doesn't help

3) On W10 machines to access XP (and the other way around too) set in the turn windows features on / off SMB1 on and uncheck the utomatic disable of SMB1. XP only supports SMB1.

on a Linux type NAS it's usually in /etc/samba

you need to be root or sudo to edit / change -- on a KDE type system you can use the file manager in super user mode -- as a NORMAL user type kdesu dolphin -- and then enter root's password and OK --for other desktops use the file manager in super user mode.

Mouse works seamlessly, screen resolutions have more choices. Then network adapter choices are so much better. You can also share folders either permanently or just for the session. I’m still learning but I think the extension also support drag and drop file transfer. Be sure you get V6, that the latest. That said I really like the Macrium iVBoot and that only works with HyperV. I’ve got HyperV on one PC and VBox on another. VBox has a command line conversion utility to help you import VHDX disks. Very handy.

Bit late joining the party. Hyper-V doesn't support drag and drop like VirtualBox (which only works half the time IME), but you can copy / paste files and folders from the host filesystem to a Hyper-V Windows guest.



Might be missing something, but if it still needs a licence key then I don't see the advantage of doing this over a clean XP install from an ISO?
