to insert a screenshot - so it's hopefully large enough to see..
or click 'Go Advanced' + paperclip to upload it as an attachment - which is more appropriate, then someone can actually try it.
There are tutorials on how to upload screenshots etc in the Tutorial section.
I know how do a screenshot but i can't screen the whole screen for an exclusive software development that can't be show. I redone the screenshot with more area. Hope this will be fine
The idea was to upload an actual file so some one could use that themselves. You're not using the forum features as I showed you- and it may be optimistic to expect a response- especially as this area is for comments on the tutorial and won't be seen by most members.
I don't understand: i posted the image larger where it show the gif problem so i not understand whats the problem now. What means upload actual file? what file? Shall i post this same screen on an image host?
First, post your query in an appropriate forum so lots of people will see it.
Second, use words like 'dark mode' and 'gif transparency' in the title.
Third, upload an actual file - which people can download using forum features as I showed you.
a. click 'Go Advanced' below your post.
b. click the paper click icon
and so on
(see the tutorial if you need to).
Then, if someone thinks they can help, they can download the actual gif in question and see if they see the same as you do.
That's the actual file- not an image of how you see it on the screen.

When screenshots are posted using the forum features as I showed you, reading the post and clicking on the image causes it to expand. Yours don't..because you've simply pasted them in.
K i could do a new post in support but about the image, the gif is the soccerball. This is a screenshot. I think is not clear the fact. I will try to explain: i am a visual basic 6 developer. When i changed the white backcolor window with grey register modification, gif inside the program are wrong (violet colour). The gif appear like it when i put on another image that is inside the software so if i upload only the soccerball.gif its obliviously correct but the problem is when i put in on another image and it not mantain the trasparency so i can't upload nothing except a screenshot. i tried my software on another comp and seems work because no white colour backcolour change has ben made. And surely i can't upload the VB6 program compiled (in .EXE) on the forum so i only wanna know how i can fix this seeing simple the image

Great tutorial! I've been using the registry settings for quite some time!
I do have a problem, that I hope you can help me with.
I have configured the below registry value in my Windows 11 user profile to change the default window color from 255 255 255 (i.e. white) to 192 192 192 (i.e. a not so bright on the eyes grey). Excel is much easier on the eyes with this setting (unless a white fill cell shade has been applied). However, after a while, if I close Excel, and re-open Excel, it reverts back to the bright white default setting. If I logoff and back on again and open Excel in a timely manner the custom window colour is successfully applied again. The problem appears linked to my Microsoft Personal account, as the problem follows me on multiple computers (Windows 10 or Windows 11), yet on my main notebook, I don't know for sure, but I don't think it happens with the other Microsoft Personal user account. I have lived with this problem since first customising Windows 10 colors with my Microsoft Personal account some years ago, and it happens on all computers with this account. The reason for asking the community now, is recently (i.e. the last couple of weeks) Windows 11 now takes longer, nearly 3 minutes, to logon from a clean restart (i.e. all users had logoff before the restart), so I started restarting without a logoff first, and somehow the actual registry values were reset from 192 192 192 back to 255 255 255, which had never happened before.

Sometimes office and other software has settings for appearance particular to that program, independent of the general Windows setting. I don't have Office so can't check that.

Not really relevant to this colour customisation topic, but how does one address a syncing problem for Microsoft personal accounts?
Do you know if any other members of the forum have successfully adjusted the Window colour of Microsoft Excel without modifying the actual spreadsheet format?
Unfortunately the Window registry setting described in this thread has no effect on Microsoft Word.
I set Microsoft Office 365 to the "Dark Gray" setting (i.e. File / Account / Office Theme: ) but these themes do not modify the Window colour.

Hi dalchina, maybe this is related to how it's resetting.
To summarise and I think as you've noted: background colour settings can be divided into several sets, each of which are independent of one another:
- 'general' Windows pane background colours e.g. Wordpad
This is what the Advanced Appearance dialogue in Win 7 let you change - now via the registry or 3rd party tool such as Winpaletter, SMACC

- file explorer pane background colours (these include e.g. control panel and other instances of file explorer)

In your workbook, click Page Layout tab > Background > select a single color picture (grey color).
