    Results from running MediaCreationTool2004 overnight

    Hi Brink

    It seems to have worked.
    • All the advanced restart Options are there at boot time
    • No flags in Device Mgr,
    • and a 20GB Windows.old

But which one is the real WinRE?

Looks like it's Partition 4 and not the last partition
and it's grown a bit too

What to do next to become a truly standard setup?
    Remove "WinRE" with diskpart?
or go back to Win.OLD and remove Partition 4 there before re-running MRT2004?
    ...
or could one use Diskpart + Mini Part Wizard...?? (AFTER backup!)
    1. Remove last "WinRE" partition - Diskpart
    2. Move real WinRE to end of disk - Mini Part tool
    3. Extend C: to close the gap - Mini Part tool

    @spilly,

At this point, I would just leave both there since everything is working properly now.

It's not much space. If you delete the wrong one, you would end up having to also delete the other to clear house, and doing another repair install to restore the recovery partition.

reagentc /enable OR /disable both result in disabled!!

For me it doesn't matter whether I run reagentc /enable OR /disable both result in disabled!!

BTW when I do run reagentc /enable without runningreagentc /info first then I get an error.

I have no idea what's going on!!

    Hello Mark,

What error message are you getting?

What is the results of running reagentc /info to see if have a recovery environment available?

Is there a way to enable reagentc without access to the desktop? Like lets say if the boot didn't work and you're stuck since you can't access restore point/cmd without an enabled reagentc?

I'm guessing it might be possible using a bootable usb or other options, but I would like to confirm.

You could try running a startup repair after using a Windows 10 installation USB to boot to advanced startup options.

I suppose that would mean that you can still access the rest of the advanced options in troubleshoot if you boot with a Windows 10 installation USB. Good to know.

    Hello,

I find the easiest and more reliable way to repair WinRE is a repair install of Windows 10 below without losing anything.

Untrue as a categorical statement; it always removes much of my customization.

So, for getting the Sytem Restore option, instead I will use this fine suggestion, for which I thank you:
