    How to Set Default Tab for Task Manager in Windows 10

    Task Manager can be used to view and manage your processes, performance statistics, app history, users, processes details, and services in Windows 10.

    Starting with Windows 10 build 18305, you can now set a preferred tab to have Task Manager open to by default.

    This tutorial will show you how to set a default Task Manager tab you prefer to immediately switch to when opening Task Manager for your account in Windows 10.

    Contents

    • Option One: Set Default Tab for Task Manager in Task Manager
    • Option Two: Set Default Tab for Task Manager using a REG file

    OPTION TWO

    Set Default Tab for Task Manager using a REG file

    The downloadable .reg files below will modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TaskManager

    StartUpTab DWORD

    0 = Processes
    1 = Performance
    2 = App history
    3 = Startup
    4 = Users
    5 = Details
    6 = Services

    1 Click/tap on the Download button below for the default tab you want to download its .reg file.

    Set_Processes_as_default_tab_in_Task_Manager.reg (default)

    Download

    OR

    Set_Performance_as_default_tab_in_Task_Manager.reg

    Download

    OR

    Set_App-history_as_default_tab_in_Task_Manager.reg

    Download

    OR

    Set_Startup_as_default_tab_in_Task_Manager.reg

    Download

    OR

    Set_Users_as_default_tab_in_Task_Manager.reg

    Download

    OR

    Set_Details_as_default_tab_in_Task_Manager.reg

    Download

    OR

    Set_Services_as_default_tab_in_Task_Manager.reg

    Download

    2 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

    3 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

    4 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

    5 If you like, you can now delete the downloaded .reg file.

    That's it,
    Shawn

    Hello Jack,

    It appears that not everyone on 18305 has this setting yet despite what's in the release notes.

    Hello @samerrustom,

    What build of Windows 10 do you currently have installed?

    This feature is not available until build 18305 and higher.

    Currently, it's only available in builds for Windows Insiders if you wanted to start getting Insider builds, but it will be available to the public sometime late in this month of May.

    Thank you for your swift reply.
    I do not want to try Windows insider since it is always on beta.
