@bjm,
I've updated the .reg file download in step 2 of option 5 to correct this registry value for you.
When you have Windows Security open, does its icon show in the notification area then?
Hi,
First happy holidays for everybody.
I’m not sure I’ll get an answer here as the latest was about four months ago. I have the main problem of this thread after uninstalling a Firewall application. I’ve tried all the ready solutions mentioned here, apart from the ones done by GP, as my Windows is Home edition, and ended up with two entries in the startup list, no icon though.
Googling for a fix I came to this one, and it revealed another problem, the file “MSASCuiL.exe” is missing, it should be located in "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MSASCuiL.exe". I do not know if this file is the cause or not and if true, is there a way to download this file alone, or maybe another fix to this issue?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hello @dabour,
Are you trying to hide or show the Windows Security notification icon?
Double check all the startup items locations in the registry listed in option 3 of the tutorial below to see if you may find the double entry.
Add, Delete, Enable, or Disable Startup Items in Windows 10
These are the default locations below. Using step 2 in option 5 in the first post here will set this for you if needed.
Hello Brink and thanks for your reply.
I'm trying to show the icon, and windows security starts normally and the real time protection is on, only the icon is missing.
As for the stratup items "Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security" shows in this location "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools".
Also I used (step 2 in option 5) before, no go.
The "Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security" shortcut you mentioned would be in All Apps on your Start menu instead.
Just to verify, do your have Windows Security notification icon turned on in your notification settings below?
