Thanks for your advice.
As an FYI, this needs to be done with Administrators permissions.
Backing up the affected key before editing is always good advice. Thanks for the reminder.

If I recall correctly i could remove that key without Administrators permissions.
Just out of curiosity but why don't you just disable the start of Windows Security/Defender, which in turn won't display that particular icon in your system area?
Disabling the task in the normal way prevented the task from running but did not prevent the task from appearing in Task Manager. It continued to appear in Task Manager with the notation "Disabled.'
Stopping the task from appearing in Task Manager is really for appearance only. I'm something of a 'nut' for the vast expanse of white space in my Startup tab. The only item appearing is the stub for my backup application, but I'm also a 'nut' for backing up, so that one is okay.
Hi
I've lost Windows Defender Notification Icon.
Option One = I do not have Windows Security notification icon item.
I've tried Option One, Two, Three and Five.
W10 Home 1903 (18362.295)
Any ideas...get Notification Icon back?
Thanks
Hello @bjm,
Just to verify, are you able to open Windows Security?
Open Windows Security in Windows 10
Open Regedit & check if the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
See if "SecurityHealth" is present and points to:
%windir%\system32\SecurityHealthSystray.exe
Is this path present in Sys32?
C:\Windows\System32\SecurityHealthSystray.exe
