To restore Windows Security Center Notification Icon at Startup on system tray in the update 1809
Run the Following reg file https://1drv.ms/u/s!AtzD3w8fHHv1gelxB7X-skcEstOnzA
Later if you want to remove the icon just navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete the entry named "Windows Defender Security Center" as can be seen on the image here Hide or Show Windows Security Notification Area Icon in Windows 10-e3bf6da0-a098-4986-9728-31fc93cff452-.png.jpg

    Then restart your PC

    Good luck

Hi, I'm having an issue wth the Windows Security icon in my systray.
To be precise it disappeared after using a program called Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4.5 from The Windows Club.

Hide or Show Windows Security Notification Area Icon in Windows 10-capture-20190321-023153.png

As you can see in the above screenshot the box was ticked to "Hide Windows Defender Icon from Notification Area".
Since I had, and liked that icon in my systray I unticked it before applying some other tweaks I made, so I certainly wouldn't lose that icon, and guess what, the opposite happened LOL. After rebooting the WIndows Security icon was gone, and dispite my efforts to get it back I failed, so I ended up here again for assistance... if you don't mind

Let me take you through the steps I made so far to prevent you from offering tips and tricks I already did.

    - Option 1: Hide or Show Windows Security Notification Area Icon for Current User in Taskbar Settings.
I would, but there' no Windows Security icon to show in the Notification Area, so lets skip this one.

    - Option 2: Hide or Show Windows Security Notification Area Icon for Current User in Startup Settings.
Again here, as well as in Option 3, there is no such icon to show, so lets move on.

    - Option 3: Hide or Show Windows Security Notification Area Icon for Current User in Task Manager.
    See Option 2 LOL

    - Option 4: Enable or Disable Windows Security Notification Area Icon for All Users in Local Group Policy Editor.
    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Security\Systray= Disabled.

    - Option 5: Enable or Disable Windows Security Notification Area Icon for All Users using a REG file.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender Security Center\Systray HideSystray = 0 (enable)

I've also ran "Enable_Windows_Security_notification_icon_for_all_users.reg" restarted, without a positive result.

Other suggestions are made in the comment section, like "Add_Windows_Defender_notification_icon_to_startup.reg"
This added "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MSASCuiL.exe" to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

It's worth mentioning that Windows Ultimate Tweaker probably deleted that Registry entry and thanks to Brink I at least got it back. I was really hopeful after applying this tweak but after restarting my system I still couldn't see a Windows Security icon.

There were other changes too, like Option 2 & 3, both in Startup and the startup section of Task Manager, a new entry appeared.
But instead of having the default name "Windows Security Notification Icon", it is just called Program.

Since that Program icon is blank I started thinking that there isn't a program associated with it, and since the reg key LM --> Run points to "MSASCuiL.exe" I went to C:\Program Files\Windows Defender and MSASCuiL.exe seems to be missing...

Is there a way to get it back, perhaps re-install Defender?

If that is out the question can someone upload that file, if they're matching my computer specs:

    Hello @witten1972,

Since it's not clear what was affected, you could try doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this change was made to undo it.

Yeah thought about that too Brink, but the last couple of days I browsed through the entire Group Policy editor, made numerous changes and when I revert with System Restore I have to start all over again pfff... So I was hoping someone could send me a matching file, like the one I'm missing. Or perhaps another solutiion...

You could try downloading and merging the .reg file below to add the entry below in the registry for this.

    Windows_Security_notification_icon.reg

The methods provided work insofar as the undesired icon is removed from the notification area. However, the entry in Task Manager is still there:

I know it doesn't really matter, but can I remove this item from Task Manager?

If you really want to remove it from the startup entry of Task-manager you can try and remove it with Regedit.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

First Export this key to a save location, and then delete the Windows Security/Defender entry.
