Go ahead and setup OneDrive being sure to not turn on back up folders.

Turn On or Off OneDrive PC Folder Backup Protection in Windows 10

Afterwards, verify your Desktop folder is not backing up to OneDrive. If not, then you can copy the files back to your Desktop from OneDrive.

Once all is well, you can uninstall OneDrive again if wanted.
I have 6 email addresses that I could have used, and my password manager does not store onedrive
passwords . Does each address have its own onedrive?
Or is there only one onedrive?

It would normally be the one for your Microsoft account.

Do you see the same steps while setting up OneDrive after opening it?

    To all,
I restored an April 2022 Macrium image and then uninstalled onedrive
and that has cleaned up everything. Under users/xxx/onedrive I see
no files, only empty folders. And users/xxx/DeskTop seems normal.

    So I consider this fixed.

    Onedrive won't go away

Hi Shawn, I followed the procedure to uninstall Onedrive from my 'use only at home' PC. But for some reason, a Onedrive folder keeps appearing in my File Explorer file structure. There are no files in this folder and I have tried several times to simply delete it but it keeps coming back. I tried repeating the uninstall process but the Onedrive application is not visible under the list of apps in the Apps and Features screen. Attached is a picture of what I'm seeing. Is my PC haunted?

That is the way it works. Just ignore it - if you copied any files there , nothing would happen.

I must admit I never really understand why people go through hoops and loops to uninstall onedrive as it uses barely any resources when you are not using it, but even though free space is only 5GB, it is still handy as a way of transferring files too large to email, storage of critical documents etc.

With Onedrive's Features on Demand, you do not even use valuable drive space on pc or laptop as files are on cloud, and all you see on pc are effectively placeholders (click on it and file is downloaded on demand).
