Turn On or Off OneDrive PC Folder Backup Protection in Windows 10
-
oof. M$.
How do we get rid of the obnoxious "manage backup" context menu entry?
I dont mind the others from within the onedrive folder etc, so i dont want to blanket disable the onedrive extension entirely.
I would think disabling backup would do it, but it doesnt seem to.
Closing onedrive does, but I have two pc's in which onedrive doesnt run at startup. I run it when i want to. It does not have that context menu entry when ran.
Another 2 pc's DO have that darned context menu entry regardless of cirumstance.
Any idea how to get around it being displayed? If anyone knows me, they know i like uniformity amongst my pcs and when things configured the EXACT same way are behaving differently... oooh boy the word ocd doesnt quite cover the feeling

hmmm, on my "non offender" pc's, it seems i can get the context menu to appear if i enable backups. disappears if i disable backups. that simple. Exactly how yo u would expect it to operate.
Perhaps it has to do with the windows version, or onedrive version.
oddly enough, somehow my windows on the "non offender pc's" are on 19041.207. My offender pcs on 19608.1000
the interesting part is the non offender pc's are build 20.xxx onedrive and the newer build pcs on onedrive build 19.xxx
anyone able to correlate any of this behavior wise with build or onedrive version?
beginning to dislike insider builds dramatically. Apparently they're bringing back the settings header again too. fugly bloat. /rant off

After a clean install of windows 10 i would like to move some of my user folders to a SATA HDD (D:) and to do this i have to temporarily turn off OneDrive protection (as described in this guide). So i came to this guide.
The problem is that i am missing the "Backup" tab and thus the "Manage backup" button.
Instead i have a "Auto save" tab and there is a "update folder" button.
How do i disable OneDrive protection so that i can move my folders to D: drive?

Hello Damun,
It sounds like you have an older version of the OneDrive app or Windows 10 installed.
You can use the methods in the tutorial below to set them to This PC only to turn off instead until you have the latest version installed.
Auto Save Desktop to OneDrive or This PC in Windows 10
Auto Save Documents to OneDrive or This PC in Windows 10
Auto Save Pictures to OneDrive or This PC in Windows 10

@Brink
The weird thing is that i just made the window installation USB a week ago, so it should be the latest win 10 home 1909.
During the past couple of days i've been doing clean install of windows 6-7 times to test various configurations of chipset, ME, RST and SSD drivers and i noticed that OneDrive is behaving strangely: Sometimes i would have OneDrive that's missing the backup tab and other times i would have OneDrive that has it. Sometimes the icon in the taskbar would have a double-cloud, sometimes a single cloud with a grey top (this one has the backup tab).
After i wrote that post i did a clean install again (hopefully the last one for a long time) and guess what: my OneDrive has the Backup tab again. The only thing that i did differently this time is that i logged on to my OneDrive through a browser and deleted files inside the three folders Desktop, Documents and Pictures (not the folders themselves). Then i deleted the sync data and logged off. Next time i did the windows install it was all good. Well, at least OneDrive was...

I thought it worked but it did not. So How do I do this???
Hello Josey,
Go ahead and post some screenshots showing these folders in File Explorer along with the General tab on their Properties pages to see if anything may stand out.

Thanks Shawn But it is fixed, I ran all of those Bat Files and it worked after I restarted my PC. One Drive should be an optional feature.
