How to Enable or Disable Changing New Tab Page Background in Google Chrome in Windows


This tutorial is no longer valid in the latest Google Chrome.



Starting with Google Chrome 68, you can enable (default) or disable a flag for an experimental feature to allow selection of a custom background image on the New Tab page when Google is set as the default search engine.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable being able to select a custom background image on the New Tab page in Google Chrome for your account in Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10.

EXAMPLE: Selecting custom background image on New Tab page when Google is default search engine





Here's How:

1. Open Google Chrome.

2. Copy and paste the link below into the address bar of Chrome, and press Enter.

chrome://flags/#ntp-backgrounds

3. Select Default, Enabled, or Disabled for what you want in the New Tab Page Background Selection flag drop down menu. (see screenshot below)

Selecting Enabled will also enable the required New Tab Page Material Design UI flag.

4. Click/tap on the RELAUNCH NOW button at the bottom to apply.
