How to Change Text Spacing in Microsoft Edge Reading View in Windows 10


Microsoft Edge is a new web browser that is available across the Windows 10 device family. It is designed for Windows 10 to be faster, safer, and compatible with the modern Web.

Microsoft Edge provides a reading view for a more streamlined clean and simple layout, book-like reading experience of webpages, without the distraction of unrelated or other secondary content on the page. This will bring whatever you're reading front-and-center. You can even change the reading view style and font size to suit your mood.

If you like, you can also set to have wider text spacing in reading view that could improve reading fluency.

This tutorial will show you how to have normal or wider text spacing while in Microsoft Edge reading view for your account in Windows 10.

This option is no longer available starting with Windows 10 build 17711.

1. While you have reading view turned on in Microsoft Edge to read an article, click/tap on an empty area of the article.
2. Click/tap on the Text options icon Change Text Spacing in Microsoft Edge Reading View in Windows 10-text_options.png. (see screenshot below)
3. Under Text spacing, click/tap on normal Change Text Spacing in Microsoft Edge Reading View in Windows 10-normal.png. (default) or wider Change Text Spacing in Microsoft Edge Reading View in Windows 10-wider.png. icon you want.

OPTION TWO

Change Text Spacing in Microsoft Edge Reading View in Learning Tools



This option is only available starting with Windows 10 build 17711.

1. While you have reading view turned on in Microsoft Edge to read an article, click/tap on an empty area of the article.
2. Click/tap on the Learning tools icon Change Text Spacing in Microsoft Edge Reading View in Windows 10-learning_tools.png. (see screenshot below)
3. Click/tap on the Text options icon Change Text Spacing in Microsoft Edge Reading View in Windows 10-text_options.png.

4. Turn on (wider) or off (default - normal) Text spacing for what you want.

OPTION THREE

Change Text Spacing in Microsoft Edge Reading View using a REG file



The downloadable .reg files below will modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.

0 = Off (normal)
1 = On (wider)


1.Do step 2 (on) or step 3 (off) below for what you would like to do.


 2. To Turn On Wider Text Spacing in Microsoft Edge Reading View

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

 3. To Turn Off Wider Text Spacing in Microsoft Edge Reading View

This is the default setting.

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6. When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7. If Microsoft Edge is currently open, then close and reopen it to apply.

8. If you like, you can now delete the downloaded .reg file.
