Hi Shawn, with respect to enabling SMB1, it might be interesting to point out that doing so causes the Computer Browser service to run. From what I've read, doing so is what then gives rise to a potential 10 minutes + delay in discovering a PC newly connected to the network.

Conversely, disabling SMB1 means the Computer Browser service doesn't run.

True, it may cause a delay. I just wish you didn't need SMB1 to see older Windows 7 computers on the network on a Windows 10 PC.

I have been referred to this thread as a possible place to find an answer to my challenge.

I replaced my old computer with one that has Windows 10 Pro preinstalled (version 20H2). I am logged onto the computer via Microsoft as the only user and use the assigned PIN for access. In the past with the older version of Windows 10, I had no problem accessing a iMac that uses SMB.

Currently I have all of the Share parameters set (IMHO) and have SMB1 activated on the Windows 10 computer. However, when the Mac tries to establish a connection with SMB, it asks for a User Name and Password, neither of which I use (just the PIN). My User Name is "todd", but I am not sure of a password - just have my Microsoft PW - things are a lot more complicated due to security efforts.

    Help!

    Hello Todd,

The required password for the share would be the same password for your Windows 10 account. In this case your Microsoft account password.

If needed, you can use an option in the tutorial below to determine the "user name" of your Microsoft account in Windows 10.

I rejoined just to cheer for Brink. I hadn't been able to see other computers on my network since Win7. It was the Function Discovery. They were all set to manual start! Even after a reboot, I had to restart the service. I watched in joy as the other computer names popped up on my screen.

I had stopped trying because some of them previously identified as being on other networks. (old router, two switches.) I just put a new router on two days ago. They now IDed on the same network. This was my project for tonight. I'm so happy!
