Took 3 hours to completely rebuild the system but it was worth it. Everything works as advertised. Except for one minor issue - all but one of the systems on the network showed on the new install but the missing system showed on all the other systems on the network. I had to change both "Function Discovery..." services from Manual to Automatic on the new install. That solved the issue.
While I'm in practice it probably would be a good idea to rebuild/refresh several of the other systems on the network since they are several years old and have been through many hardware and software changes along the way.
Small question but default is SMB Direct always ticked in windows features? I plan on unsharing things between my network and i cannot remember which one was on by default or not
SMB 1.0 Server was found to be a security risk, so it was disabled by default in favor of SMB Direct, but older OS's than Windows 10 like SMB 1.0.

Enable or Disable SMB1 File Sharing Protocol in Windows
Microsoft have not just made network stop working like normal by just sharing folders.
I suggest you create a thread of your own in which you can describe your problem and get specific advice.
All I have had to do is tell Windows it is a Private network [so it turns on Network discovery], tell each computer that it is part of the same Workgroup & identify the required folders as being shared. SMB remains in its default turned off state. Windows 10 Home

My main questions been answered and for the record i have had the exact same settings you do. Private network, workgroup, shared folders for both the windows 10 home laptop and windows 10 pro PC at one point it worked and then it stopped. Dunno if it was because of feature updates or not. And yes if i want to try without SMB i can certainly make another thread
Hi Shawn, and thanks for this tutorial.
(And your multitude of other tutorials... when do you sleep? )
I'm trying to share files between two desktop PCs via wireless networking; they both connect to the Internet via a wireless router. Let's say the two PCs are called Fred and Wilma.
Fred runs Windows 10 Home, and has 4 users whose folders I wish to share. One user account is myself (Roger).
Wilma runs Windows 10 Pro, and has 2 users, one user account is also myself (same account name, Roger). My account on both computers has the same password.
I've followed the tutorial carefully and they're both members of the "mshome" workgroup, and the network is "private".
My issue is that when I try to share "Fred's" folders with Wilma I can only access the shared folders on "Fred" if I share them with "everyone". Because of using "everyone" the three other users on "Fred" can see one another's documents, which isn't desirable. (At least, I think it's because of using "everyone".)
I've tried using "Roger" as the user to share with on "Fred" (instead of "everyone") but without success. When I open the network folder on "Wilma" I could see the shares on "Fred" but not open them to view the contents; it just said "You do not have permission... contact your administrator." etc.
Any suggestions on how I can avoid using "everyone" as the user group to share with?
Thanks in advance,
Roger V.
